Grapthar's Song of the Day: The Clash 'Lost in the Supermarket'
The Clash - Lost in the Supermarket
The Clash are one of the two
most famous bands of the original British punk scene (Sex Pistols being the other), and cemented a serious legacy, writing catchy, successful music, but always maintaining an element of originality and the ultimate rock and roll attitude. They abandoned playing exclusively punk music pretty early, and embraced ideas from reggae, world music, Motown, and loads of other influences, creating some amazing, unique pieces of music that definitely have stood the test of time.
Listen to Lost in the Supermarket by The Clash here.
The song appeared on what is
arguably their most famous album, London Calling, released in December of 1979. It was definitely a big turning point for the band, as it is incredibly eclectic in style and sound. The songwriting also got MUCH more detailed and interesting around this time, abandoning typical 3 chord pop structures for songs like this, which much more color and mystique to them. When I first heard this song, I was amazed that they wrote something like this YEARS before any other bands were anywhere near this level.
Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
