The Faint - Birth

The Faint are a synth-punk/indie

band, formed in 1995 in Omaha, NE. When the band started, they were a more traditional indie/emo band, with 2 guitars, bass and drums, but over time they began to incorporate synths and electronic drums, becoming significantly more of a "synth" pop band by their 3rd album. However, they then began using guitars and bass more on the following albums, finding a really interesting balance between their styles.

Listen to Birth by The Faint here.

This tune is from their

4th album, Wet from Birth, released in 2004. This was the album after Danse Macabre, their synth-dance-punk masterpiece, so it was surprising to here all these actual instruments on my first listen. However, I've grown to love this album, and the closing song here in particular. The guitar part is simple, but super effective, as is the harmony more generally. The driving, heavy drums really keep things rolling, while the lyrics describe human pregnancy and birth from the perspective of the infant forming and growing.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
