Grapthar's Song of the Day: Sting 'Shape of My Heart'
Sting - Shape of My Heart
Sting is the stage moniker
of singer/songwriter/bassist Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner. He is known for his band The Police, who became one of the biggest bands of the 1980s, and subsequently in all of rock history. After their breakup in the mid-80s, he embarked on a solo career where he found a lot of success, releasing tons of albums, writing a musical, scoring films, and performing innumerable live shows.

This song is from his
1993 solo album Ten Summoner’s Tales. Personally, I find a lot of this album to be a bit cheesy, it has a strange sort of production on it that reminds me of smooth jazz of this same era, but this song is absolutely incredible. The guitar line is relatively simple, just arpeggiating chords, but it is beautiful, and Sting’s vocal parts work perfectly. They also modulate keys towards the end, a very stark change, but it works really well and makes the progression feel totally fresh in a new key.
