“Route 66,” covered by The Rolling Stones … (Rhythm ‘n’ Blues / Blues Rock – Music to Your Ears, Covers–31)

in #music5 years ago (edited)

This propulsive, charged-up version was the first song on Side One of their first album.

The Rolling Stones – “Route 66”

“Route 66” (1964 – original from 1946)

Only a few years after Chuck Berry covered this song,  the up-and-coming British band The Rolling Stones  featured “Route 66”  on their 1964 debut LP, as the very first track on Side One.

From Humble Roots

Most of the other songs on that first album were covers of classic blues or rhythm and blues songs.

The majority of those songs clearly indicated where the Stones has their roots – deep in the blues.          (Image source)

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones formed in London in 1962. When they began, they played primarily covers of blues and R&B songs. However, they soon started composing their own songs, many of which turned out to be even more popular than their covers.

Band of Rebels

The Stones were a major part of the “British Invasion”  of UK bands into the US market in the early 1960s. Like their compatriots The Beatles, the Stones went on to conquer the world.

The band has released over 50 albums. They have been inducted into both the UK Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The band continues to perform today, almost 60 years after their debut, with essentially the same core line-up. Rock on.  (Image source)
