“Suspicious Minds,” covered by Dwight Yoakam … (Rock / Pop – Music to Your Ears, Covers–10)

in #music5 years ago

A talented, and creative artist, Yoakam can access the best of both worlds.

Dwight Yoakam – “Suspicious Minds”

“Suspicious Minds” (1992 – original from 1969)

While the Elvis hit “Suspicious Minds”  is generally regarded as a pop song, this version by Dwight Yoakam made it to Number 35 on the country music charts in 1992.

Clearly, Elvis had a major influence on Yoakam, and that comes through in this song. Yoakam colors this classic pop song with his ultra-cool, urban-country, bluesy swing.

While this version originally appeared on the soundtrack to the movie “Honeymoon in Vegas,”   it was later included on the album “The Very Best of Dwight Yoakam.”

Dwight Yoakam

The country music star Dwight Yoakam is sometimes referred to as a “crossover”  musician, owing to his ability to write country songs that transcend that categorization, as well as his ability to take songs from other genres and “countrify”  them.

More Country, More Creative

Ironically, Yoakam’s music has been described as being “more country than country.”  I guess if one is a superb, talented, and creative artist, he can access the best of all worlds. And deliver it to a grateful and respectful audience.    (Image source)

We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say? We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds

So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?

Here we go again
Asking where I've been
You can't see these tears are real
I'm crying

We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds

Oh let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Let's don't let a good thing die

When honey, you know
I've never lied to you
Mmm yeah, yeah

Hi @majes.tytyty

You were very right when you said that your musical repertoire was very varied. Here is another example.
Newly enjoying good music

Happy weekend.

Heh heh. I've been around long enough, listening to much and varied music, that I have plenty of fine music to share.

Of course, YouTube's never-ending recommendations always provide more. This MTYE series might continue forever ....

hey, are you available on discord ??

No, sorry. I find DISCORD very incomprehensible.
