HUMBLE PIE' Lost Album - Joint Effort

in #music5 years ago (edited)

Greetings to all music lovers!

This time I prepared a rather unusual review on album, which is also part of the golden age of rock music and modernity. I hope you will be satisfied.

"Joint Effort" is an unreleased studio album of British blues-rock band Humble Pie. The material was presented very recently, in February 2019. Studio work included previously unheard songs of the team, as well as three cover versions of legendary hits. I think that this material will be extremely informative and interesting to fans of the group.

From the very first notes one can understand that the recording is old. Some songs have scuffs, and the voice of the late Steve Marriott instantly takes the listener far into the past.

This is a very special "lost" album, recorded in 1974-75 years in classical composition: Marriott, Clempson, Ridley, Shirley. Ten songs were recorded, but material was never released.

These recordings were made by Humble Pie at Clear Sound Studios, their own studio in Essex. The album was eventually rejected by their label A & M. And by the way, at the same time the band recorded the album “Street Rats”, which was released in 75.

Interestingly, two songs from the released material hit two albums at once - "Street Rats" and "Joint Effort". Band broke up shortly after the two albums were recorded. But, as you can remember, part of Humble Pie story is broke ups and reunions.

Tracklist opens with a cover of 1957 "Think". As you may know this composition was recorded by American band The "5" Royales and made famous thanks to James Brown. Wonderful funky number, a bit raw, rhythmic, with a great vocal part. "This Ol' World" - a special work with a big soul and a good guitar riffs. I propose to listen to it first.

I think "Midnight Of My Life" is one of the best songs on recorded material. Great atmosphere, passionate vocals. It can be called perfect. In any case, this is great and best part on material in my opinion.

In general, it seems to me that not only music fans of 70s of music should pay attention to this release. Here you can find an excellent collection of warm and simply beautiful creativity of the group in the best of its times. Therefore, if you somehow have not heard a single song of Humble Pie, I advise you to pay attention at least to this release.

"Let Me Your Lovemaker" is a song that became a hit for American soul singer Betty Wright. Band recorded heavy sound in hard blues. Also excellent is soul blues cover of "Rain" from the repertoire of The Beatles.

Then follows "Snakes & Ladders", Steve Marriott’ heavy blues song. "A Minute Of Your Time" is a beautiful number, one of highlights on the disc.

Then comes "Charlene", a very cool, original rock song. The album also ends as it began, with a cover of "Think", titled "Think 2".

Actually, all the studio material is heard as one. Each recorded composition is a special atmosphere with a pleasant vocal and instrumental accompaniment. And when you listen to this work until the end, you want to go back to the first song and start all over again.

This release is of great value to Humble Pie fans.
