Rode Wireless Go - the world's most compact microphone system
In April 2019, happened what Rode fans were waiting for. Replaced by a good, but cumbersome radio system RodeLink Filmmaker Kit came compact and more versatile model Rode Wireless Go. And the word "compact" is basic and here is why.
The company introduced its new wireless microphone, which will clearly become the smallest wireless microphone on the market today. With dimensions of 4.3x4.3x2 cm and weight of 30 g (two modules), it is a very interesting solution. First of all, the transmitter can be used as a microphone that attaches to the lapel of a jacket or a T-shirt on the chest, or simply a belt unit, while the lavalier microphone is traditionally skipped under the jacket and included in the 3.5 mm TRS port.
Dimensions of devices no more than a credit card. The system was created as an alternative solution for video bloggers, journalists and presenters. The creators themselves note that the Wireless GO is useful to anyone who wants to facilitate the recording equipment when working in open areas.
The transmitter module is equipped with a built-in omnidirectional primer, clip, and TRS input connector for connecting any third-party lavalier microphones. As for the receiver, it is equipped with a 3.5 mm jack for connecting to the camera, a sound capture device and two-way fastening. Receiver can be mounted on the belt or on the camera itself. Additionally, it is worth noting the possibility of selecting the output signal level: the options offered are 0, −6 and −12 dB.
If you think that such dimensions are not very suitable for professional use, I hasten to disappoint you. Such weight and dimensions will be very useful when using compact cameras on portable image stabilizers. Often, a large external module causes a strong imbalance of the camera and gives a significant additional weight, while the compact module does not significantly affect the weight and allows the use of lightweight models.
