LTAM #102 : Doumbek Percussion (Indonesian Made)

Doumbek is also under the category of goblet drum and is classified as hand percussion. The percussion is a single head (or skin) with a copper or some made from aluminium body. This goblet drum are widely used in Middle East, North Africa, even in South Asia.
This is an Egyptian Style of Doumbek Percussion Drum that can tell from its edges. It has rounded edges around the drumhead.
Playing Technique
There are many style playing and is depending on which country.
Eastern and Northern African will play under their arm or some resting the drum on player’s leg.
The Middle Eastern will normally played with one arm and some placed at their lap sideways while seated. They played with the fingertips and palm that produces low sustain sound and the other way of playing style is by moving their fists in and out to alter the tone.
For the Eastern Europe including Egypt are playing differently. They play with both hands at the same time. One hand using fingers and the other hand will be holding a thin stick.
A hexagon tuning key is included and is for the player to tune either tighten or loosen depending on player’s requirement.
