Music, the Universal Connection: My First Experience as a Sofar Sounds Guest

I love the quote in the 2007 film Across the Universe, where the character Jo-Jo (played by Martin Luther) says “Music is the only thing that makes sense anymore.” I believe this to be true.

Last night, I was invited to my first Sofar Sounds concert. According to their website (https://www.sofarsounds.com/about/how-it-works), “Sofar transforms everyday spaces - like a living room or retail shop - and turns it into a captivating venue for secret, live shows, creating an immersive experience that brings guests and artists closer together.”

It was quite an experience.

Initially, I received a message from my friend a few weeks ago about the Sofar Sounds and how we should both sign up for the lottery to better our chances of ‘Getting In’. I thought it sounded like an interesting concept, so I applied. My friend received an invitation to the Guest List and brought me as her plus one.

When we arrived, we went up to the second floor of a building downtown. It was set up to look like a living room, but during regular business hours, it was an office. We picked our seats near the front on a blue velvet sofa.

Shortly after, the host of the evening approached the microphone, and told us about the Musical Artists that would perform. The first musician, Sian Cross, was very talented. Her angelic voice captivated the audience from the first note to the last. She told us about her project that inspired the songs she sang, and it was a great start to our intimate atmosphere. The next performer was JPSon (https://www.facebook.com/JPSonmusic/). His charisma, and witty stories between songs, connected the audience, and made us all feel like life-long friends. The songs he played were catchy and creative.

King Pigeon closed the evening with Indierock vibes and class (https://www.facebook.com/kingpigeonband/ ).

When all was said and done, it was a lovely evening, full of musical talent, and a warm-fuzzy feeling. Perfect!
