I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

(Paul and Heather (?) McCartney)

@knarly327 and I recently purchased an old 16 mm reel of film through an online, house-downsizing, auction.

Today, was the pick-up day and the first time that we’ve actually had the opportunity to examine the film in person.

I am sharing this so that you can See What I See and maybe, just maybe someone will recognize it and be able to add some additional details to this 47 year old story.

We both think that old film is really cool because it’s like opening a time capsule and being transported back in time. We are now left to piece together exactly what we have purchased and how it ended up in a basement in Canada.

We don’t own an old 16 mm projector so, the only way to look at the film’s contents is to look at it, frame by frame with a light behind each frame.

Alternatively, we can try to find a projector or take it to a company that can digitize it.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • 1972

  • Paul McCartney

  • Linda McCartney ?

  • Heather McCartney?

  • Mary McCartney ?

  • Ireland

  • In the beginning of 1972, Paul and Linda were on a European tour with Wings and this was during the same time as Bloody Sunday. Paul stepped up and produced the song Give Ireland Back to the Irish. 28 unarmed civilians were shot by British soldiers in Northern Ireland and 14 people died. The massacre, along with Paul’s activism was highly controversial.

  • No credits at the beginning or at the end of the film

  • At first glance, it appears to be a home movie

We think this might be Linda in the frames (above) and baby Mary who would have been approximately a year old, in 1972 in the frames (below).

We have contacted an auction house located in (Manchester) in the United Kingdom. They deal in Beatles’ memorabilia. Although not a direct Beatles’ link, they do have an upcoming auction scheduled for March 26th, 2019 and we’re hoping that they might know something about this particular film.

It’s an interesting story and I’ll be sure to continue it, if I receive anymore information from anyone about it.

Oh man! How sweet is that?? What a find... and what a story! That's one rabbit hole that would really be interesting to delve into. I look forward to hearing more about it lol.

Hi @tamaralovelace!
It just keeps getting crazier by the hour it seems.
24 hours in and we’ve heard back from the auction house in England.
They are interested and have suggested that other film material has sold in the past for $500- $1,000 pounds. We also found (through word of mouth, first thing this morning ) an old 16 mm projector with an empty reel. On my list of things to do later tonight, we’ll be our first attempt at viewing the film which likely hasn’t been watched in a few decades.
Thought we’d take a video of it, so that it can be shared. Will do this as long as the contents of the film are clean and it wouldn’t be considered hurtful or harmful to anyone. We think it may have been a private movie made by Linda and Paul as a family keepsake.
An intriguing mystery, to say the least. ;

The best of luck to you on selling it.
It sure looks like them to me.

Thank you very much @rebeccabe!
We’ve heard back from the auction house and they are interested.
Found a 16mm projector, so will attempt to watch the film for the first time tonight! Very exciting!

This is very exciting. Be sure to journal your journey to riches.
