Music Monday #5: Satisfaction, Being Nothing & A Meeting by The River + STEEM BOUNTY

in #music5 years ago

When Dad (and all of us) thought that he was a-dyin, he started to sell off his wall of guitars. He couldn't even play anymore - the tips of his fingers were numb and tingly from the chemicals. Horrified he'd sell his little Larrivee, which sits by the couch, I bought it from him lest he sell it to anyone else. Still got to get around to learning how to play, but I like my Dad's guitar sitting there and I think it's the finest of all the ones he had. He's still got a couple - he ain't dead yet, and once again I can pop over there to see him plugging away at his guitar like he has for the last twenty years. He's no expert, just likes the meditative quality of it I think.

In thinking of this guitar and the music in my parents house, I went for a Harry Manx tune this week. He's a Canadian musician - a kinda blend of blues and folk and ragas Indian. Kinda suprises me how many times I'll walk into a cafe around here and they are playing Harry Manx - this week was at the local wholefoods as I enjoyed a coconut curry.

In the depths of some melancholy sadness last week I faced it in a yin yoga class, going beneath the layers into heart. It was this song that brought me there, and it was so beautiful. It's in keeping with the song above, that tells us we can't be satisfied. The theme of the class was the human tendency to keep searching, and searching, and searching - but when we stop and be still the joy and happiness and all the other things we've been searching for are right there. The rolling sound washed right over me and allowed me to find that inner spot.

I usually post three clips - and I'm not cheating this time by posting more than three 'clips', but this one is an entire album - I couldn't choose one song from it and I just love the entire album. It's just beautiful.

@walkerland, these songs might be more to your liking than last week's crazy pub folk punk!

Some great choices this week my friend, I particularly enjoyed "being nothing" (so beautiful and relaxing) and both the tracks sound of running water and the river in your title made my choice the logical conclusion .. well logical to me anyway lol I'm also a big fan of that bluegrass style guitar picking of Mr Manx and although I have yet to listen I'll be back to lend an ear to your album selection .. excellent choices! Love your Dad's guitar, so happy you've managed to keep it in your family and that he is still able to play and enjoy his love of music .. beautiful! :D

Oh brilliant ! I love Neil Young. We saw him play near us a few years back and there was SUCH rainstorm/thunderstorm building and it was an outdoor gig - one of the few we didn't stay to the end of as the weather was SO bad. As we were edging out way out, of course he started playing 'Like A Hurricane' so we stopped in the pouring rain to listen. I thought you'd appreciate Harry Manx as I know you like the bluegrass style. xxx Thanks so much for coming past and dropping a tune for me - it's my fave steemday of the week!

Hello! 😎
One of my favorites, I especially like how they satirize the tough guys image of Agnostic Front.

Ha, I remember Agnostic Front! I used to listen to a lot of hardcore thrash punk in the late 80's (I went out with a drummer from a thrash band for a while) and when I went back to the original to compare, that sound brought back memories! I adore the satire here, it's hilarious. Love love love, and thanks for popping a tune down for me! xx

Just learn the chords River and practice strummin..
As the 2 vids can't be played...Touré is cool.

Oh that's a shame! I wonder why = is it your phone or do the links not work ordinarily ... hmm...

Said not available.

I LOVE this so much and your dad's guitar is a beauty. Harry Manx is divine. I've never even heard it before which blows my mind! Awesome!! xx

Ah you'll love him! I realised the Canada link after posting.. der... must be a sign. X

Hey there @riverflows!

My first Harry Manx taste..he da mang that Harry! ;-) so thanks for posting!

I could immediately imagine Jorma Kaukonen or David Bromberg covering that tune, which to me says A LOT.

I'm enjoying your #musicmonday endeavors, and look forward to more. Maybe someday I'll pipe in with a few of my faves, + the reasons why said tunes rock my core.

Peace and smiles...

Oh, I'd LOVE you to drop tunes in! For example, I have no idea who Kaukonen or Bromberg are and need some enlightening! thanks for dropping by xxx

Love the music, I’m gonna add him to my pandora playlist for checking out at work!
I find this band pretty awesome and using non traditional instruments like the harmonica is one of the reasons they are in my top favorite bands!

Blues Traveler - Run Around

Blues Traveler - But Anyway

These are my two favorite songs but there are lots others that are awesome!

Nice post and music.
