Pete Tong Transports Us from Rainy Manchester to Sunny Ibiza with Club Classics
On a rain-soaked evening in Manchester UK, we were transported to the sunshine and deep blue seas of Ibiza last night as super-DJ Pete Tong delivered his Classic dance tunes from the past 20-odd years to a packed Manchester Arena.
The entire stadium was bouncing as the 'toons' were played live by a huge orchestra to a thumping beat and fantastic light show. The backdrop showed imagery of stunning Ibiza sunsets, super yachts, deep blue seas and of course, endless sunshine. The crowd cheered as images of the iconic signs for club legends like 'Pacha' and 'Cafe Del Mar' adorned the screens.
It was a great atmosphere as us 40+-somethings were taken down memory lane to tracks from Faithless's 'Insomnia' to Chemical Brothers' 'Galvanise' and of course, Robin S's 'Show Me Love'.
There were guest vocal performances from the likes of Becky Hill and others but Beverley Knight stole the show.
So there was a talented orchestra playing the music, a composer keeping it all on point and guest vocalists. So this begs the question what Pete Tong was doing....? I must confess I'm still not entirely sure.... But he was good at waving his arms and throwing in the occasional "C'mon Manchester!" and, hats off, he can throw a damn good party! Legend.
