#5 Fine Arts Center 1998 WaaSylla Drummers Drumming LENJENG

in #music5 years ago (edited)

During the Great Malian Empire before the days of the Upper Volta and all the sub divisions of Western Africa, villagers metered and gauged their days by the daily migration of the animals. Lenjeng is a rhythm and dance that the Mandingo villagers of Casamance Senegal created emulating the flight of the Herons.

Traditionally this rhythm is played on small drums using a stick in one hand and the palm of the other hand.
