Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs

For your listening pleasure, I present to you Narrow Stairs by Death Cab For Cutie. It's the band's sixth studio album, and also their most commercially successful record. It was released in May 2008, 10 years ago now, and reached the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200. I was given this album as a gift for my 20th birthday from someone I was living with at the time, so it's very reminiscent of that period of my life.
The record had four single releases including "I Will Possess Your Heart", "Cath...", "No Sunlight", and "Grapevine Fires", with "I Will Possess Your Heart" reaching number 6 on the US alternative chart. My favourite track of the album has to be "Bixby Canyon Bridge", which is the opening track for the album and I've included a YouTube video of that song below (although it's unavailable to some countries, including here in the UK so you may need to search it yourself).
The song uses many themes, including with the song "Grapevine Fires" which is said to reference the California wildfires. If you're a fan of shows like New Girl, you've probably heard the albums final song, "The Ice is Getting Thinner" before. In fact, Death Cab For Cutie are regularly used in teen shows and dramas.
This is easily my favourite album by the indie rock band, although it doesn't contain my favourite songs by them. It feels more complete than previous albums, I can and do listen to this one all the way through, whereas previous albums can be far more hit and miss with the tracks.

The name rings a bell but cant remember listening to them might give it a try ☺ nothing like a bit of indie rock
They were quite popular during the mid-00s, don't really hear much about them these days although I think they have a new album coming soon.
This is a really good album, but a good introduction to the band might be Transatlanticism, especially the songs The New Year and The Sound of Settling.

"I will Follow You Into the Dark" was a big hit here and Death Cab for Cutie. Possess Your Heart was too, but I like Follow into the Dark more if I had to choose (not sure it's rank on charts). I do like Death Cab but haven't listened to an album all the way through. Thanks for Bixby Bridge - I could listen and it was awesome.
EDIT- I went to listen to "Follow you into the dark" and got lost in the old comments a good hour. There was some debate and edification on the meaning of 'fear' in the Catholic context it got quite brainy. A lot of sad comments, and also joyful ones. This song means a lot to people.
I do love that song, in fact I rarely give that album a full listen to for some reason. I tend to fall back to the first couple of albums or the two recent ones, ignoring everything in between. Yeah, I think Bixby Canyon Bridge is definitely up there with ...Into The Dark and Possess Your Heart.

Yep it was comments on the youtube song of "Follow You into the dark." I try not to get into reading comments often as they can be so varied, heartbreaking or maddening. Then I think I shouldn't be spending emotional energy on anonymous people on the internet thinking about it so much. Listening to music on youtube is interesting though in that way you can have a kind of shared experience with others. It doesn't match going to a live show but it has become a proxy for that experience.
I know what you mean, sometimes it can be hard to not let strangers online get to you. I quite enjoy watching the live comments on the lofi streams I listen to, some of the things people say...
