#MyCalifornia: Sugarpine Mountain
It's been too long since visiting this track, Forest Road 2N49. Once I determined that the snowline barely grazed the top of the trail, I bundled up and piled the dog in for a brisk 8 mile trek.
This track covers some interesting terrain, rising from the chapparal of Cleghorn Pass, showing off views from multiple saddles of both the high desert and the Cajon Pass and San Gabriel mountainscape.
San Gabriel Mountains
The High Desert featuring Silverwood Lake and the city of Hesperia.
The saddles provide a canal for an atmospheric river to flow from the inland valley up over the Sierra Nevada Transverse Range and into the Mojave basin.
The frost follows the usual path of clouds siphoning over the ridge towards the High Desert.
More wonderful icicle tree images:
Fire damaged scrub oak raise their icicle clad limbs above their verdant regrowth.
A Red Fox darted across the rugged dirt road as I approached our trailhead. Tracks of him and/or his kin kept us company the whole way.
I feel so fortunate to have this pristine cloud forest less than 30 miles from my urban blight town. Getting out and into the woods heals my soul and gives my aching hips something to cry about 😂
Thanks for joining me on another hike #walkwithme through my favorite places in Southern California.
Love,cat

This whole time I thought you lived out by Needles somewhere. Maybe you do.. I remember you sharing images off the 95.
Eh, I graduated high school from Hesperia. Good stuff. I know all of those views well. Nice post @creationofcare.
Thanks! Yeah I posted some of 95 from a roadtrip but my homestead is in San Bernardino....lived in Hesperia for a few years with my parents though. I do not enjoy the wind, but I do love the Mojave. Glad you liked seeing some familiar places!
Thank you so much, that is awesome!
