There are some songs that you heard at a time in your life and remain recorded forever in your memory and its only evocation manage to move you in time and space and take you to live at that earlier moment. The song that I'm going to talk about today has that gift in me and that's why I consider it part of #mymusic.

Recording a cover of a successful song, seeking to repeat the success of the original, is a resource that has many years of history. Doing this with songs in other languages is much more common. For that reason, someone had to do a Spanish version of one of the songs that was placed in the top positions of the radio billboard in the United States in the spring of 1969.

It's not really about "one" song, it's about two ...

The Spanish version that marked a moment of my life, was the one made by the beloved Venezuelan group "Las 4 monedas", very popular in the 60s and 70s. The original recording was made by the group The 5th Dimension. And the song came out under the title of "Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In".

In October 1967 a musical about the hippie culture was released, “Hair”, which was quite an event for touching such delicate topics as love, peace, sexual freedom or the use of drugs. Naked actors came out at the end of the play, which was allowed in New York City. When making the national tour, that point and many other accusations that made the show aroused such conflict that the issue ended up being dealt with in the Supreme Court of that country.

The musical started on what is called "off-broadway" finally crossed the street and became Broadway repertoire. The version represented in England was active until 1973.

In the year 68, the singer of The 5th Dimension accidentally left his wallet in a taxi. The person who found it worked in the production of the musical and invited the group to see the play. The members of the group came out excited about the show and asked the producer Bones Howe to record that song. But it was not really a song but an introduction to the piece. However the producer thought he could do a medley , that is, he could melt two songs of the play into one, even though they had different rhythms and were in different tonalities. So he did and the song became a total success in the United States and in much of the world. It obtained two Grammys and was in the most important lists of musical successes occupying the first positions.

Of course, soon came the versions in other languages. And the version of one of the most popular groups in Venezuela, was not long in coming. The incredible thing is that both versions sounded at the same time in the Venezuelan stations. However, perhaps because of the linguistic closeness, the one that was recorded in my memory was the version of the group of the O'Brien brothers, the Venezuelan group "Las 4 monedas”.

Hay algunas canciones que las escuchaste en un momento de tu vida y se quedan grabadas para siempre en tu memoria y su sola evocación logran trasladarte en el tiempo y el espacio y te llevan a vivir un poco ese momento anterior. La canción de la que voy a hablar hoy tiene ese don en mí y por eso considero que forma parte de #mymusic.

Grabar un cover de una canción exitosa, buscando repetir el éxito de la original, es un recurso que tiene muchos años de historia. Hacer esto con canciones en otros idiomas, es mucho más común todavía. Por esa razón, alguien tenía que hacer una versión en español de una de las canciones que se ubicó en las primeras posiciones de la cartelera radial de Estados Unidos en la primavera de 1969.

En realidad no se trata de “una” canción, sino de dos…

La versión en español que marcó un momento de mi vida, fue la que hizo la muy querida agrupación venezolana “Las 4 monedas”, muy popular en los años 60 y 70. La grabación original fue hecha por el grupo The 5th Dimension, también conocida en los países de habla hispana como La Quinta Dimensión. Y la canción salió bajo el titulo de “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In”.

En octubre de 1967 se estrenó el musical “Hair” sobre la cultura hippie, la cual fue todo un suceso por tocar temas tan delicados como el amor, la paz, la libertad sexual o el uso de drogas. Al final de la obra salían los actores desnudos, lo cual estaba permitido en la ciudad de Nueva York. Al realizar la gira nacional, ese punto y otras tantas acusaciones que le hicieron al espectáculo despertó tal conflictividad que el asunto terminó siendo tratado en el Tribunal Supremo de ese país.

El musical empezó en lo que es llamado el “off-broadway” finalmente cruzó la calle y se convirtió en repertorio Broadway. La versión representada en Inglaterra estuvo activa hasta el año 1973.

En el año 68, el cantante de The 5th Dimensión dejó por accidente su cartera en un taxi. La persona que la encontró trabajaba en la producción del musical e invitó al grupo a ver la obra. Los integrantes del grupo salieron emocionados del epectáculo y le pidieron al productor Bones Howe grabar esa canción. Pero realmente no se trataba de una canción sino de una introduccción en la obra. Sin embargo el productor pensó que podía hacer un medley, es decir, que podía fundir dos de las canciones de la obra en una, a pesar de que tenían ritmos diferentes y estaban en tonalidades distintas. Así lo hizo y la canción se convirtió en un éxito total en Estados Unidos y en gran parte del mundo. Obtuvo dos Grammys y quedó en las listas más importantes de éxitos musicales ocupando las primera posiciones,.

Por supuesto, en seguida vinieron las versiones en otros idiomas. Y la versión de uno de los grupos más populares de Venezuela, no se hizo esperar. Lo increíble es que ambas versiones sonaron hasta el cansancio en las emisoras venezolana. Sin embargo, quizá por la cercanía lingüística, la que se me grabó en la memoria fue la versión del grupo de los hermanos O’Brien, el grupo venezolano “Las 4 monedas”.

Es gibt einige Songs, die Du in einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt in deines Leben gehört hast und für immer in Gedächtnis aufgezeichnet bleiben. Seine einzige Erinnerung schafft es, dich in Zeit und Raum zu bewegen und dich zu einem früheren Moment zu führen. Das Lied, über das ich heute sprechen werde, hat diese Fähigkeit in mir und deshalb betrachte ich es als Teil von #mymusic.

Das Aufnehmen eines Covers eines erfolgreichen Songs, das den Erfolg des Originals wiederholen soll, ist eine Ressource mit langjähriger Geschichte. Dies ist bei Songs in anderen Sprachen viel häufiger. Aus diesem Grund musste jemand eine spanische Version eines der Songs machen, die im Frühjahr 1969 in den Vereinigten Staaten auf den ersten Plätzen der Radio-Werbetafel platziert wurde.

Vielleicht ist es wegen der sprachlichen Nähe, die Version die in meiner Erinnerung immer noch scheint, ist die Version der Gruppe der Brüder O'Brien, der venezolanischen Gruppe "Las 4 monedas".
