As announced in my post Tag #mymusic [En-Es-De], this week I start to publish, already with the #mymusic identifier the music that has marked me at some point in my life or that has left some important mark on me.

So today I start with a woman, who marked a whole country, she became an obligatory reference in classical music, as well as in popular music, recorded more than 40 musical genres and obtained all the important prizes that Venezuela gives , including the "National Music Award", which is the most important in the country, likewise received any number of international recognitions, such as the fact that her name in Prague engraved is, in the theater where the Prague Spring Festival is held , which was where she received her first great award.

But who was Morella?

This woman who stood out with her mezzo-soprano voice was born in Caracas in 1935. At the age of 11 she entered the high school choir where she studied and the director of that group is the one who serves as a liaison so that, at that young age, she enters the University Orfeón of the Central University of Venezuela, an iconic group in the country.

From then on, got defined what her future would be. In 1948 she participated, under the pseudonym of Morella Kenton, in a radio program where she sung US hits of the time. In 1953 she entered the Superior School of Music to study singing, having the most outstanding musicians as professors.

In 1957 she traveled to Europe and began, in different countries, her specialized training. In 1961 she became part of a nascent group, the "Quinteto Contrapunto" (which deserves a special post), which was fundamental in her approach to Venezuelan popular music and therefore, determinant in her career.

In the lyrical field Morella never stopped her training process, specializing in German Lied, as well as in Brahms, Schubert, Bach, Haendel and Mahler.

Her inclination towards Venezuelan music led her to convert this repertoire into one of her favorites, in the same way with the Venezuelan children's repertoire, from which she left recordings that are historical and that in my case in particular transport me to my childhood, which was marked by that repertoire, in songs like Don gato.

Beyond the success that Morella Muñoz had, she and her husband were friends of my parents, who were also in the arts and who were at her side from the beginning of her career, creating a closeness between our families. For that reason and with more reason the music of Morella became part of my life and became part of #mymusic.

Morella Muñoz was synonymous with many good things, firmness, professionalism, solidarity. She became a symbol of our Christmas because of the love she felt for that celebration and the repertoire of that genre that she bequeathed to us, as in the case of Luna decembrina. A necessary reference in Venezuelan music, in which she left works such as the Zumba que zumba, the joropo llanero, or the indigenous voices collected in Yarorikué.

She didn't leave a very extensive discography, but a determinant, historical one.

Unfortunately, a few days before turning 60 (1995), she said goodbye forever leaving a huge gap in all who knew her, but leaving at the same time a wonderful musical legacy.

Tal como lo anuncié en mi post Tag #mymusic [En-Es-De], esta semana comienzo a publicar, ya con su identificador #mymusic la música que me ha marcado en algún momento de mi vida o que ha dejado alguna huella importante en mí.

Así que hoy empiezo con una mujer, que marcó a un país completo, ella se convirtió en una referencia obligada dentro de la música clásica, así como en la música popular, grabó más de 40 géneros musicales y obtuvo todos los premios importantes que da Venezuela, incluyendo el “Premio Nacional de Música”, que es el más importante del país, así mismo recibió cualquier cantidad de reconocimientos internacionales, como el hecho de que su nombre esté grabado en Praga, en el teatro donde se celebra el Festival Primavera de Praga, que fue donde recibió unos de sus primeros grandes galardones.

Pero ¿quién fue Morella?

Esta mujer que destacó con su voz de mezzosoprano nació en Caracas en 1935. A los 11 años de edad entra en el orfeón del liceo donde estudiaba y el director de esa agrupación es quien sirve de enlace para que, a esa corta edad, entre al Orfeón Universitario de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, una agrupación icónica en el país.

De ahí en adelante quedó definido cuál sería su futuro. En 1948 participa, bajo el seudónimo de Morella Kenton, en un programa de radio donde interpretaba éxitos norteamericanos de la época. En 1953 ingresó a la Escuela Superior de Música para estudiar canto, teniendo a los más destacados músicos como profesores.

En 1957 viaja a Europa y empieza, en distintos países, su formación especializada. En 1961 pasa a formar parte de un naciente grupo, el “Quinteto Contrapunto” (el cual se merece un post aparte), que fue fundamental en su acercamiento a la música popular venezolana y por lo tanto, determinante en su carrera.

En el campo lírico Morella no detuvo nunca su proceso de formación, al especializarse en el Lied alemán, así como en Brahms, Schubert, Bach, Haendel y Mahler.

Su inclinación hacía la música venezolana la llevaron a convertir este repertorio en uno de sus preferidos, de igual manera con el repertorio infantil venezolano, del cual dejó una grabaciones que son históricas y que en mi caso en particular me transportan a mi niñez, la cual estuvo marcada por ese repertorio, en canciones como Don gato.

Y es que, más allá del éxito que tuvo Morella Muñoz, ella y su esposo eran amigos de mis padres, quienes también estaban en el medio de la artes y quienes estuvieron a su lado desde los inicios de su carrera, creando así una cercanía entre nuestras familias. Por ello y con más razón la música de Morella pasó a formar parte de mi vida y se convirtió en parte de #mymusic.

Morella Muñoz fue sinónimo de muchas cosas buenas, de firmeza, de profesionalismo, de solidaridad. Ella se convirtió en símbolo de nuestra navidad por el amor que sentía por esa celebración y el repertorio de ese género que nos legó, como en el caso de Luna decembrina. Una referencia necesaria en la música venezolana, que dejó obras como el Zumba que zumba, el joropo llanero, o las voces indígenas recogidas en Yarorikué.

No dejó una discografía muy extensa, pero sí determinante, histórica.

Lamentablemente, pocos días antes de cumplir los 60 años, se despidió para siempre dejando un enorme vacío en todos los que la conocieron, pero dejando al mismo tiempo un legado musical maravilloso.

Wie in meinem post Tag #mymusic [In-Es-De] ankündete, beginne ich diese Woche mit der Veröffentlichung, bereits mit dem #mymusic identifier die Musik, die mich irgendwann in meinem Leben geprägt hat oder die mir wichtige Spuren hinterlassen hat.

So beginne ich heute mit einer Frau, die ein ganzes Land kennzeichnete, sie wurde zu einer obligatorischen Referenz in der klassischen sowie in der Volksmusik, nahm mehr als 40 Musikgenres auf und erhielt alle wichtigen Preise, die Venezuela gibt, einschließlich der "Nationaler Musikpreis", der wichtigste in dem Land, erhielt auch eine Reihe von internationalen Anerkennungen, wie zum Beispiel die Tatsache, dass ihr Name in Prag eingraviert ist, in dem Theater, wo das Prager Frühlingsfestival stattfindet, wo sie eine ihrer ersten großen Auszeichnungen erhielt.

Morella Muñoz war Synonym für viele gute Dinge, Festigkeit, Professionalität, Solidarität.
