Socotra is a small island or archipelago (group or chain of Island) in the Indian Ocean, the largest of the Island which is the actual Socotra is about 95% of the total landmass of the archipelago, the location of this Island is 240 kilometres east of the Horn of Africa and 380 kilometres south of the Arabian Peninsula, Socotra is such a unique Island that a third of plants found there is found nowhere else on earth. Sometime in the 90’s, a survey was conducted by a team of UN biologists on the archipelago’s flora and fauna, it was discovered that there are nearly 700 endemic species found nowhere else on earth, only Hawaii, New Caledonia, and the Galapagos Islands have more numbers.

It features a natural rock tower which is now exposed by erosion. Devils Tower was the first declared United States National Monument.
