JORMUNGANDR

Jormungandr or better known by the name Jormungand is a sea serpent who is the second child of Angrboda giant and god Loki. When he was a child, Jormungand was banished into the vast ocean that surrounds Midgard.

This is done by the gods because according to the forecast, Jormungandr is one of the Devils that will destroy them. The serpent grew so large, until it was long enough to wrap around the earth and had to bite its own tail. When he releases his tail then the world will end.

Because of that he got another name of Midgard (Midgard Serpent / Midgardsormr) or snake of the world. Jormungand's eternal enemy is Thor. To confine Jormungand that continues to grow, Odin throws the snake into the sea. But Jormungand grew so large that his body completely covered the world.

As an eternal enemy, Thor and Jormungandr met several times throughout his life. 3 meetings that are still recorded among others.

Thor first meets up with Jormungand, who is disguised in the form of a giant cat by the gigantic Útgard-Loki giants (Loki of the Outyard, not Loki of the Norse god). One of Thor's tasks given by Utgard Loki is to lift the cat.

Although he was unable to lift a monstrous creature like Jormungand he was able to lift it until one of his feet was lifted off the ground.

Another encounter occurs when Thor lures with Hymir's giant. When Hymir refuses to bait Thor, Thor beats Hymir's biggest cow's head to feed. They sailed to the place where Hymir used to fish, where he caught two whales. Thor insists on getting to deeper waters, and does so even though Hymir warns him.

Thor then set up a strong fishing line with a big hook, where Jormungand bit it. Thor pulled the snake out of the water, where the two came face to face. Hymir became pale with fear, and when Thor took his hammer to hit the snake, the giant cut the line, leaving the snake to dive back under the waves.

Their last encounter took place when Ragnarok, jormungandr rose to hear his father's call, and rose to the surface, causing storms and tsunamis. On the day of Ragnarok, he will fight thor, the god of lightning, where thor will kill jormungandr with mjollnir hammer but thor then died as a result of jormungandr.
