Naturalmedicine: Bee polls against hay fever 🐝steemCreated with Sketch.

in #naturalmedicine6 years ago

Ok getting out of my comfort zone writing this text. I promised @riverflows but it is a though job to write about the natural medicine I discovered to lighten up the days I’m suffering from hay fever. Tried to do some research on it, but there is still no scientific proof, or I didn’t find it off course! So, it could be my story isn’t complete yet or a reader might know more info (please fee lfree to add in the comments). But nonetheless I hope @riverflows like it for her new channel @naturalmedicine.

Many many people know how it feels. Every year again and again when spring kicks in, it’s a crime for certain people to get out and enjoy nature at its finest. Those people suffer from hay fever. Because there are many polls in the air. Those people allergic for the polls have though times. I could never imagine how though these people were during spring. Yes, I knew they had it rough sneezing, crying etc all the time for weeks. Until it hits me unexpectedly. First year I thought I caught a cold somewhere. The year after same period, some rough weeks again. Then a light started to blink, and I started thinking. Am I starting to get allergic for something?

Testing

That year I went to the doctor for some testing. It turned out that I was allergic for multiple trees (beech, birch, alder and the hazel) and cats. Where did this come from that sudden? All those years before none of the allergic symptoms and there they were…

I got some medicine from the doctor but those didn’t help. Actually, I was even more tired than without using those medicine. The year after I got multiple medicine, so that I could try what suits me the best. I found out after multiple sprays, pills, eye drops that the pills called Cetirizine suits me the best. It stopped the crying during those months, but I’m still sneezing, and tired. Went back multiple times to the doctor, but none of the alternative worked out that well as Cetirizine did for me. So I started to use those medicine somewhere at the beginning of January till the end of May. Just so I could keep going outside. Luckily for me in the area I live we don’t have that many forests. But where my girlfriend lives it forest, forest and oh wait even more forest! In that area the Cetirizine didn’t even help anymore.

Alternatives

That’s the reason I started to look for alternatives. First indeed in other medicine etc.
But how do these medicine work? All the different medicines work at different things. There are some medicine that fight the symptoms, that fight on the cause or you can also try immune therapy. But I never got there, so I don’t know how that works.

Bee Polls

I found my solution in a small natural thing created by the lovely bees you can find anywhere in the world. I’m using bee polls. I found an article on the internet about using the cause for the hay fever as a solution. Normally the polls are waving through the air by the wind. We’re breathing them in and they got in our eyes etc. The same polls will be collected by the bees. Bees collect the polls by adding a little bit of slime and create small balls from it. These balls turned out to be my solution!

The polls from bees have a powerful medicinal effect, this is because the slime of the bees neutralizes the allergic reaction from it. The slime is actually some quercetin, and this is a neutralizer for too much histamine.

When I started to take those bee polls on a daily base together with the Cetirizine. I started to feel myself better and better. Gone was the tired feeling, gone all the tears. Wait was this because of the polls?

The next year I decided to leave the medicine in the box and tried it with only some bee polls. And hey the effect was the same as last year.

Still hoping year by year, the hay fever disappears at the horizon just as it was there instantly and uninvited. But for now, the bee polls really do help a lot.

How do I use the bee polls?

I drink every day a glass of water with two teaspoons polls added to it. But you can add them to your smoothie, yoghurt, mix them with your normal food, take them raw etc. They taste usually sweet. But wait it depends from where you get them. So, try them first. Because I bought some polls and their taste was disgusting.

A drink I also like is this one

  • One glass of water

  • Juice from half a lemon

  • Two teaspoons polls

  • One teaspoon of honey

  • A sniff of sea salt

Mix all the ingredients together and let them extract with the water.

Not working

The only thing the bee polls aren't working for are cats... Every time I visit friends with cats I have to think about my medicine. But this is better than using the medicine for months. Or I have to accept I will cry a lot during that visit (and not only by laughing 🤣).

Bees and all their byproducts are amazing. Wonderful that you have relief @guchtere. And a lovely entry for #naturalmedicine

Bees are amazing indeed! A real pitty they have a hard time surviving...
And I'm really happy they bring me relief and help me survive (allthough they got hard times) the troubles of spring.

You have some bee stories yourself ?

We keep bees on our homestead and I make an all natural skin care range, most of which incorporates beeswax (and sometimes honey). So yes, I have bee stories ;) And as you say their survival is a challenge. It is a pity there isn't more effort to protect the bees, especially as our survival depends on theirs!

Oh yes a beekeeper! Can you share some tips how people can help the bees at their place? So we csn save their future and ours!

What does the beewax do for the skin? Wasn’t aware of those qualities either!😎

Oh dear where do I start? Beeswax protects the skin as a natural barrier. It is anti-inflammatory so wonderful for skin ailments. Very high in Vit A. Fights sun damage. Beeswax also has has incredible anti-bacterial anti-fungal properties. It helps with healing and reduces scaring.

To keep bees you'll need hives. Safe access to water. Plenty of bee friendly herbs and plants in your gardens. No aggrevating noise or interferenc;es. No No's are: lawnmowers, cell or electricity towers or lines, animal interference. They need plenty of love and care with no aggrevation. Although our South African "killer" bee has a reputation for being aggressive. They're amazing little creatures. And apart from the benefit of honey they are really a special community insect to watch

an aggressive bee? I always thought a bee would only be agressive when you enclose it. Isn't the SA killerbee actually a bee with wasp gens or something? 🙈
But the bees need safe access to water? they can fly to it why do you need to arrange the safe access? The plants I can imagine otherwis no honey. And the electricity and cell towers, they can't handle the radiowaves?

Wasn't aware of all those magical things about beeswax. Thanks for the explanation!

Not at all. The SA bee is just the most aggressive type and far more prone to sting. Hence the name killer bee. If a bee feels threatened it stings. If it feels its colony is threatened it stings. By safe access I mean that they will drown in a pool of water. Shallow tubs of water with pebbles or stones will give them "safe access" ie no risk of drowning.

I know bees sting when they feel threatened.. But the SA killerbee doesn't sting for fun I assume? Because as fas as I know bees die after the moment they sting.

Safe access I understand now, thanks for the explanation! So swallow they can actually keep their head above the water I assume?

This is kind of similar, but I healed getting seasonal allergies with local raw honey! I never thought about using bee polls! Love it

You totally healed!? So you don’t need any honey anymore? That sounds promising😎

Now that I think about it, no I havne't had to have honey for several years now! Sometimes I have a little bit anyway just because it tastes good haha

Damn that sounds good! Crossing my fingers that after a few years of using bee polls I don't need them anymore! 🤞

And can imagine you use honey every now and then, I'd love to cook with it 😋

Fantastic. A great post about how natural medicine has impacted your life. We have given it a b buzzing bee sized and we will add it to the list of fabulous entries to this contest. I would love to hear from other natural medicine fans how about whether they have had success with bee pollen.

Oh I was confused before when you said that you were finishing my post. I thought you meant reading one of my posts rather than writing one for me. Thanks so much. You know I wouldn't believe that you would be allergic to trees unless this was also true of my husband full stop the pine trees next to us are about to go into full flower and it's going to kill him. We're not sure if it's other trees too but definitely this one. His eyes are beginning to each already. He is trying to get the council to cut them all down which is reasonable as they are fire hazard anyway and there's a big native Forest next door. These don't pose a problem for him. We found that certain foods also aggravated his hay fever so he cut down on those which seemed to help you know high histamine foods. We haven't tried bee pollen yet but after this post maybe I will encourage him to try it. Would you believe he is also allergic to cats. This means we can't go round to dinner to people's places who have a cat unless he takes an antihistamine which of course can be horrible to take. So we sympathize completely it's amazing you have had success from bee pollen. Thanks again for writing this post
