My Home-made Organic Facial/Body Scrub Made Easy!

in #naturalmedicine5 years ago (edited)

Asia is quite fond of using lemongrass in one's cooking. Here in the Philippines, we love to use it when making soup and in rice for the lemony smell. Personally, it's only recently that I have been including lemongrass as an accompaniment to my mom's concoction of herbal tea to help the taste.

As a herbal, it's known to help those with urinary problems, how that works will be on another post later. Other usage that I am aware of is on soaps, but this was in one of London's organic shops.

Now, for my own home-made facial and body scrub...

After grabbing a mortar and pestle in Vigan, with the lemongrass stalks already dry...my plan to make my own facial scrub went underway immediately with excitement on what will be the end-product as such.

Am sure that it would have been easier to use a small blender to powderise everything, but all we have is a large one so that won't do. Using a mortar and pestle wasn't so hard as I was only doing a little bit.

Ingredients:

lemongrass 4 dry stalk
red rice 1 spoonful
organic sea salt 1/2 spoon
kalamansi 1 pc
organic honey 1 spoon(more or less)

The HOW:

Cut the lemongrass in small pieces. Smaller than these as it's easier.

Others might have other preference on which one to powderise first.

To have a better consistency and with less irritation to the skin, just give a bit of pounding with the salt.

This will make it smoother a bit. Even with a bit of honey, the lemongrass and the salt will give that scrub effect to remove dead skin.

Some considerations:

As we have different skin types, just like with other cosmetics, some people will want to try a product first on their hands or feet, or using a little bit here and there. This incase of any untoward reaction/s that may occur.

ITCHINESS

I felt it on my face, but not on my hands and feet, though it went away after washing with water. That might just be from the lemongrass as it's got a rough surface.

Who wants to try it? It's organic!

Accordingly, lemongrass is an astringent, fungicidal, anti-microbial and antibacterial. As there's a lot of astringent preparation in the market, this is a great option for those who have an access to the ingredients. As this is my first time to do something like this, perhaps i can add another herb, depending on what can be added that is good for the skin. Astringent can remove blemishes, right?

With all those benefits to the skin, lemongrass is also rich in Vitamin A and C, it is a toner too for those who wants a firmer skin.

Disclaimer : Please be aware that allergies and skin sensitivities might occur after applications.

Wow, that's a great idea! I don't think I can find red rice and lemongrass here but surely can try to make my own scrub with other ingredients. Was it a rough consistency or smooth?

Smooth esp with the rice and lemongrass on the face...the sea salt can be varied for the body.
