Papaya as a Preventive Medicine || Natural Medicine Challenge

in #naturalmedicine5 years ago (edited)

Hello Wonderful People!

I hope you are having a good day

I grew up in an environment knowing, "it's better to not take any chance to take medicine, rather focus on how to prevent diseases". This rooted in me from childhood. Also, I think it's a cultural thing. People from South Asia usually try natural medicine to treat diseases and heal their bodies.

We have the 'National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine' in Bangladesh. By this, you can understand how we see the natural as a source of medicine. I always love to have natural ingredients as medicine if possible. But, yeah we sometimes have to go through other options when we have no choices left. But when it comes to 'Preventive Medicine" natural medicine is a must. Because natural medicine can work best to prevent different diseases and improve health & life.

One of my favorite fruit is 'Papaya' when it comes to natural medicine and preventive medicine. I also have made a post before on papaya, how different ingredients of it helps us to treat diseases. You can find the post Here. Today I'm gonna share what I've learned more about papaya, how it helps to prevent different things and my experience.

  • Skin Care

Papaya is one of the best things for skincare. It fits with every skin type and it's easy to apply. As this fruit is available over the year in Bangladesh so I used to use this from my teen ages. It helps to prevent pimple, dullness, and aging.

How to use?

Peel ripe papaya and apply directly to your skin. No need to mix it with any other ingredients. It's my lazy skincare routine!

There is also a different way to use it. You can try that also.

Papaya continues to grow its skin-health appeal because of papain, a powerful digestive enzyme naturally found in the fruit. When applied topically to the skin, this enzyme aids in breaking down dead skin cells, unclogging pores, fading acne scars and improving skin texture without irritating the skin. Its other skin-nourishing nutrients include vitamins A, C, and E, and carotenoids. Source

  • Heart Disease

It's proven that antioxidants and fiber are very helpful in low down the heart rate. I have seen people eat green papaya as a vegetable and ripe one as a fruit to treat high blood pressure, cholesterol level, and heart rate.

How to use?

You can eat green raw papaya as a salad or cook it as a vegetable. Also, the ripe one can be taken regularly. But the green one is more helpful in this as per I know. Also, I have seen people use papaya flowers and seeds to treat cholesterol and heart disease.

The significant contribution of fiber, antioxidants, and potassium also make papaya even more attractive to those at risk of heart disease. Lowering sodium and increasing potassium is among the most significant dietary changes to control the risk of cardiovascular disease. Source

  • Prevent Cancer

It's a popular belief that papaya can prevent cancer. I was not sure if this is scientific or just a myth but I have read some articles and think that it can really help. Or at least we
can enjoy the taste!

How to use?

As per I know the fruit itself is enough to reduce the risk of cancer. Also, people use dried leaves. But there are many papaya pills available in the market which are well known to prevent cancer.

I think you can consult with a doctor about this.

Researchers found that papaya was an effective anti-cancer agent against cervix, breast, liver, lung and pancreas cancers. Source You can also read the full article to learn more.

That's it for now. Actually there are many more ways to use papaya as a preventive medicine. But this is what I can share from my small experience and knowledge. I hope its gonna help you a little bit.

I ate papaya several times, it is quite unusual for me. But I liked it.

That's great. Thanks 😊

I like the taste of papaya just as a fruit. I also like the less ripe one in a salad. I didn't realize it had specific benefits.

You don't have to know dear, just eat it. It will heal your body.
Thanks 😊

I know that papaya leaves are used to help people who got dengue fever to get better, but I really never knew that they have other effects such as skincare...

Must be weird to put papaya skin directly on the face, but when my mum asks I'll just let her read this, haha.

Yeah, papaya leaves are good for dengue fever. It also have many other usage. Raw ripe papaya is great for skin care actually. It feels like facewash. Ha ha ha...

Now you said that it indeed feels like face wash...I can't take that mental image of me washing my face with that away from my head now :D

I wish the me from the past had papaya around, to smear on my face, instead of all the crappy unnatural products and even medicine I used to try and get rid of my acne as a teenager and young adult. Nothing worked and some stuff might even have done lasting damage.

Even now, I wish I had papaya around to just eat whenever I feel like it. I guess all places have its pros and its cons though haha

Thanks for teachin me something new and greetings from Portugal!

It's my pleasure that you like the fruit and think my writing gonna help a little. Thanks a lot! 😊

Thank you for your valuable contribution, rem-steem. I have rarely bought the papaya, because I rarely get it here in the offer and then it is still too expensive for me. Sometimes the price is lowered, then I buy it for 50%. I also try to heal myself preventively, but often it is not possible because many things cost too much. But your contribution encouraged me to think about it, because if you get sick and then need chemotherapy, for example, you really don't want that.

Papaya is a miracle fruit. You don't have to eat it if it's not available there. But try it sometimes. And do search for other available natural products to help your body heal.
Thanks 😊

Thanks for sharing this information.

It really is good to see different uses for this fruit by the local culture.

I’d be curious to know if there have been any studies done on these uses, or on what it is in the papaya that helps these conditions.

Thanks for sharing 😊🙏🏽☯️

Thanks for your interest. You can click on the link I added as source on my writing, specially the third one. You will find references and information. Also, you can see on web for more references if you have interests. I think that would be helpful.
