Rutabaga is a biennial plant of the Col family, which produces high yields in sandy and silty fertile soils with good humidity. The most common varieties are Krasnoselskaya and Swedish. The growing season - 110-120 days. In the Russian regions, they are sometimes called Swedish kalega, bukhva or turnips. Swedish turned out to be a cross between turnip and white cabbage. There are different points of view about the origin of the Swedes.

Some researchers believe that he was raised in the Mediterranean region, others - than his homeland - Sweden. After planting the seeds in the first year, the rosette of leaves and the root grows, in the second year, the flowers and fruits, which are multiple seed pods. The root in the second year becomes round or oval, it looks like a turnip, but somewhat larger, its flesh is yellow, orange or white, covered with green-gray or red-violet skin.

Rutabaga contains sugars, proteins, cellulose, starch, pectin, vitamin B, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), carotene (provitamin A), rutin, mineral salts (potassium, sulfur, phosphorus, sodium, iron, copper), essential oil. The ascorbic acid contained in the sweat is highly resistant to heat treatment and long-term storage. The Swedish contains the highest percentage of trace elements of calcium, so it is a good tool for the treatment of patients suffering from softening of bone tissue.

In the distant past, Swedish seeds were used to treat measles in children, to rinse the mouth and throat in inflammatory processes. Rutabaga root vegetables were considered an excellent agent for healing wounds, diuretics, anti-inflammatories and anti-inflammatories. Swedish juice is an effective remedy for wound healing. Rutabaga is a valuable food, especially in the winter and early spring periods when there is a lack of vitamins.

In clinical nutrition it is recommended for constipation, included in the diet of patients with atherosclerosis. However, the use of Swedish edible dishes is contraindicated in acute diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Such composition helps to normalize the activity of the gastrointestinal tract (the fiber cleans the intestines), weakens the stool, reduces edema (diuretic effect). Swedish also has a mucolytic action: the ability to thin the sputum. In the Russian town, several centuries ago, Swedish was consumed in the winter, it was believed to be especially useful for the elderly, as it helps maintain vitality.

The young people used it for colds, which contributed to the rapid recovery, which is quite rational, because the Swede contains a large amount of ascorbic acid, which strengthens the immune system. When the cough dries, the Swedish helps to transfer it to a productive cough, with sputum (liquefying it in the bronchi), which leads to recovery. Especially well helps the butt in chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi and lungs. Swedish was also taken to relieve edema in cardiovascular and renal diseases, since it has diuretic properties and removes excess fluid from the body. Rutabagum contributes to the improvement of the metabolic processes and the elimination of the "harmful" cholesterol of the body, which is deposited in the form of plaques on the walls of the blood vessels. Therefore, it is recommended to take with atherosclerosis.

A large amount of fiber contained in Swedish contributes to the normalization of the chair, this property is used in chronic constipation. Improves peristalsis, improves the digestive process and metabolism, which is very useful for obesity. The Swedish juice has antibacterial properties, they have been treated for a long time by purulent wounds and burns.

Rutabagum is a very useful plant, but there are some negative properties. It contains a large amount of fiber, which negatively affects the state of the digestive system. Therefore, in cases of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the best solution would be to stop using it to avoid exacerbations of the disease.
