The Thai Old-school iced-black coffee

image.png

I will actually need to be honest with you here, I never like this type of drink. A super duper bitter yet so sweet Thai style iced-coffee. Sometimes, if they keep it in the fridge for a bit too long, it could go pretty sour. Both the taste and flavour are always too intense for me. My grandma loves it a lot and yes, she got diabetes - Not to sound too mean.. :/

It's interesting drink though I would say. If without sugar, it's probably something you call 'Espresso'. Well, close enough. That's why I think it would be pretty interesting to share with you here how it's made, what it is made/brew with, most importantly, what the heck this is, exactly..

Thai traditional iced-coffee (โอเลี้ยง : O-Leang)

Just its name, it already doesn't make any sense.

It's actually an exact type of coffee that need to be made with this exact way to have this exact taste..

Easy Peasy! and no fancy machine needed

How to make this Thai traditional iced-coffee

I'm no pro here It's my first time making this and I'm already that exited to share. We went to a drink supplier and get this tea bag (big one as seen in the picture), the Thai traditional ground coffee (already a bit of sugar mixed in it), sugar. That's pretty much all you need.. Wait, that's exactly what the normal coffee would need as well.

We chose this brand as its been around for these many types of traditional drinks for so long. Look at the package and you could already see how old this brand is.

Put a good amount of coffee into the tea bag, stir it around in the hot boiling water for 5 mins. We also lift it in the air, scoop some liquid and pour all over to have the boiling water run through the coffee. You could already see how dark it could get.. Too dark and it looks midnight scary. Then we add sugar just the right amount.

Add some ice into the cup and there, you have it, O-Leang!!!

It's not the best O-Leang you could get in the city but hey, it's 100% homemade with love <3 !
