Wild Orchids #2: Ophrys exaltata sub. exaltata
If you don't like orchids you are not worth of them.
Ophrys exaltata is a member of the Orchidaceae family spread in north-west mediterranean countries.
The Ophrys exaltata species got many subspecies like "splendida", "exaltata" and "morisii". All of them are endangered.
In these pics you may see the Ophrys exaltata sub. exaltata which is endemic of Sicily and south Italy.
The Ophrys don't have nectar, they attract the pollinators insects by spreading sexual pheromons in the air and miming a female ready to have sex. Yeah, it's like an inflatable doll for dirty minded insects 😂
