City Flowers in Summer [Nature]
Welcome back. Are you enjoying the season so far?
This past week, I took pleasure in snapping some photos in old downtown. In the city, I found all of the blooming flowers during my lunchtime walk. The theme of this post is the amazing #Hydrangea.
This perennial shrub comes in many different color varieties, usually producing a medium or large half sphere of deeply clustered flowers.
Blue has always been my favorite color to find on a flower. I think blue flowers are extremely calming and peaceful.
Some varieties of hydrangea can have the color of their flowers altered by changing the pH level of the soil. An alkaline or neutral soil (greater than 5.5 pH) produces purple or pink tone, while an acidic soil (less than 5.5 pH) makes the flowers more blue.
With some varieties the color of the flower cannot be altered so much. For hydrangeas with white flowers, like the common Snowball, do not bother adjusting the pH of the soil. The color cannot be changed.
More often the grower would be wise to choose a plant variety that is conditioned to make the flower color of choice, and maintain the correct pH of the soil to ensure the plant receives proper nutrition and health.
In front of the old Sellwood Church, I found this tall meadow flower growing.
... with cheerful offerings of bright blooms.
I've seen a lot of trees, but I have never seen one filled with flowers like this one.
These are the type of flowers one might expect to find in a tropical land, and not in our cool rainy climate.
A true wonder!
#Crocosmia is a common plant variety available at most plant stores. They are very popular for the striking red flowers, and the interesting bladed leaves and flower formations.
The common name for this flower is Lucifer. The cursed name summons visions of its connection to the fiery flames of Hell.
Fortunately, the flower is totally innocent. This flower takes no offense from such silly hate speech. I was very pleased with how well these photos turned out under the fierce bleaching effect of the sunlight and the waving movements caused by the gusty winds.
This tree was photographed for the bright orange bead-sized berries I found on its limbs.
The series of photos below depict a tree that had a profound affect on me.
Not able to captured in one single photo, this tree was so tall I could not see the top of it from any angle or distance, making it a bit godlike to my ground-enslaved form. All around was bright scorching sun, yet all beneath was bathed in chilling darkness.
The strong ribs of its bony trunk continue into the mammoth tusks overhead.
The brontosaurus skin will protect it for another millennium of disastrous cataclysms.
Thank you for checking out my post.
Quick Reminder
There is still 28 hours left on the contest I am running.
To participate, all you have to do is click on the post, and reply with a comment to describe a creative new nickname for the young tree pictured in the post. I will pick my favorite creative response, and award 1 SBD to the winner.

I don't see why not. All of these are growing in full sun.
@creativetruth i have my own garden but there are plenty of flowers which are not able to grow in sun
What a beautiful neighborhood. Looks like it would just be a joy walking down that sidewalk every so often to see the changes of nature. Around here if someone does not leave a rust pile of junk in there front lawn for years on end something special must be going on lol.
I really love how well that blue in hydrangea seem to pop out from the background. It really is such a wonderful color.

Hydrangeas are a personal favorite of mine. I remember all different colors of them in my neighborhood growing up. And the Lucifer is so striking. Bright colors in nature always catch your attention. So many photos! Nice post :)
Very nice. Hydrangea are called "kerfeesroos" where I come from. Which translates to chrismasrose in english.
