Early Summer Ponds Update
Top Pond
I wasn't sure if the baby black goldfish had made it through the winter as it was a pretty cold winter with freezing temperatures.
Anyway after feeding over a few warmer days in April I did see a few of the babies. The more they were feeding the more of them i saw.
So it looks like they all made it. Keeping the air pump running throughout the winter seems to have worked.
Here you can see quite a few of the babies and how they have grown since last year.
The Lower pond
The lower pond with the large goldfish in all sem to have made it through. Although i did loose another large fish to the magpies the day i cleaned it out.
I have the breeding mops in the pond so hopefully as the days start to warm up we can get some more eggs.
The micro pond
The micro pond suffered the most through winter. Some days totally frozen and covered in snow. So i was surprised to see the frogs in there.
Around Easter time i found 2 huge batches of frog spawn. Way too big for the tiny pond. So i moved them up into the top pond to give the tadpoles a better chance.
After pulling a few dead leave from the bottom I realised that i needed to fully clean it with a third of the pond full of dead leaves.
The pond seems to have recovered well and all the plants are starting to grow
That looks like a cool project. I always have wanted to make something like that.
Thanks i really enjoy projects like this
