Chronicle of a Tree/Crónica de un Árbol

in #nature6 years ago

On September 5, 2013 I was given me a very special gift, the most interesting thing is that this gift came with a condition; It had to be taken care of and planted in a fixed place and with the assurance that it would be there for a long time.

The very special gift was a beautiful tree, one of the species that I love, the Juglans neotropica.

The story of this gift is that my cousin found it germinated when he and his wife were looking for seeds of that species to germinate in the project "the Challenge".

This beautiful tree lived for several months in a reused bag waiting for the place where it was to be planted, although we were working with my husband on some land that was not ours, we were still dreaming of getting a farm of our own, and it was in that land where we wanted to plant the gift special.

After looking for farms in different parts of the municipality of Líbano, Tolima, on November 4 of the same year of the gift, we were coming home tired after a long journey of more than 10 hours of walking through a rural area called ‘La Linda’ (the beautiful), we had observed a plot of land but it was very far away, it had no road, the path was blocked, and the conditions of the house were depressing. We already knew that this farm was not for us.

Tired, a little sad, hungry, and feeling that it was one more day that we had basically lost, because what we experienced was not rewarding. And it did not fit our budget nor our dreams.

Already descending the Camino Viejo (Old Road), Path of the Colonists as they also call it, when we saw a neighbor, Don Ivan Osorio, whom we had met some time ago, and he told us, 'huuuuuy the night has overtaken you', and we answered, 'Yes, Don Ivan.' And immediately we asked him, 'Don Ivan, do you happen to know of a farm that is selling around here near the town,' and he pointed his finger and said, 'there'. The direction of his finger was the farm just in front of his. Very tired but very happy we had a hope that this was the farm we had been looking for for a long time.

The next day, very early, we left our place in town and climbed again along the Camino Viejo for about forty minutes and arrived at Buena Vista farm. There we met with the owners, Mr. Pedro and Mrs. Eduvina; They were two grandparents who wanted to sell the land because they could not work anymore due to health conditions.

My husband and I told them our plans with the land, then we toured the area and we loved each space; the altitude was optimal, 1812 meters above sea level, coffee, banana, cassava, corn, cherimoya and blackberries were being grown here.

And that same November 5th we all decided to do the business, them selling the land and us buying it. It took us about three weeks to make the documentation, purchase agreement and payment of the property, once we had the documents of the property with everything in order and legally done we were the owners of Finca Buena Vista.

So we finally had a proper and stable place to plant our special gift. Before even living at the Finca Buena Vista, on November 19 we started planting the special gift and other plants from the collection that we had in the house in town.

On December twenty-four of the year 2013, we moved to our new home where, from the moment, our plans, knowledge, experiments, and the most exciting adventures increased because we began to experience the plant species, the birds that visit the place, also the mammals, insects, and others.

I can tell you that the Finca Buena Vista is a living classroom where thousands of different species live, among them my friend the Juglans neotropica, which at present gives us shade while we look out over the town

And I will keep telling you this story later c;

Luego les sigo contando más historias
