Hiking Up Hyyppäänvuori

Today me and my friend took a drive to a neighbouring town and hiked up a little mountain. We are in Finland, so when we say mountain, it's more like a hill to people living anywhere else than in the Netherlands. The mountain is 180 meters high, so the hike up only took something like 15 minutes and it really wasn't that bad.

I was pretty bummed about the weather because the morning was nice and sunny but as we got to our destination, the sky had turned dull grey. Horrible conditions for photography, the worst really! The scenery was really nice, like you can see, but the lighting conditions really dulled everything down. The only saviour was the autumn colours on the leafy trees.

I was really struggling with Photoshopping these pictures because I tried to make them look less grey and flat, but without completely switching up the sky and painting on lights and shadows that didn't exist, there was nothing to be done. Not with my skillz. Nature pictures are usually so easy to do because I try to shoot only when the conditions are great and there is good skyporn. I fiddled with the dials what felt like an eternity, and I'm pretty much blind to these pictures at this point, I have no idea whether of not they are worth publishing, you tell me.

Shot with the Nikon D7200 and Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8.

Hyyppäänvuori left me hungry and I want to go back some day around sunrise or sunset!

Beautiful and colorful

lovely fall colours
and that Gnarly tree!!!

It's not gnarly, it's sad and warn out!

How Beautiful color contrasts! I also really like the photo with your friend. Your Sigma lenses are special, I'm thinking of trying them out.

Good morning Alequandro! I am in love with the Sigma lenses, they are really spectacular. There is nothing else for a crop sensor Nikon that would work better, I think.

I'm thinking of buying the 18 / 35mm and use it with an adapter on my mirrorless... the only doubt is on the speed of autofocus. I'm afraid the adapter will slow it down.

Yeah can't help you with that, but it is a pretty fast lens on its own. Tho, the 50-100 is a lot faster!

They sure are! It's hard to get decent colours on the first two photos, but the contrast in all the others is really great, even without sunny weather!

Nice Autumn shots. The bright yellow trees are awesome.

Thanks, yes they are! :)

I was talking to a friend about overcast days. It's like a paint pallet of colors that are really good. Different than bright sun, especially bright mid day sun. It works! Your shots are great. People tend to focus - get it? Focus haha - on the bright dramatic advertising style postcard shots. That's normal but who needs that all the time? Lol.

I hate shooting in the mid day sun too, I want drama in the sky! I like shadows and highlights, if everything is even, I hate it! 😅

I think my favorite is low angle of the sun and big puffy fluffy clouds moving quickly

I can see that from what little I have eyed your photography! That low angle sun in black and white photography looks awesome.

Thank you! It's getting lower with fall now. Great time of year here. Is it overcast a lot there? If the sun sun comes out you will get some really low angles. A lot lower than here That would make for some great drama!

When it does come out, it does create pretty nice lighting conditions. We are heading towards the no light for months period, and I'm already scared!

The vampires are loving it!

Ha! I love it :-) Yes indeed, I also prefer drama in the sky, it adds a lot, a blue sky is just that, a plain, boring, blue sky. It may work for some pictures, but the majority of pictures work much better with extras in it ;-)

Its still some really pretty photos!

Those yellows are amazing!!

Wow, what a magnificent view! Who cares if it is a mountain or a hill, it’s beautiful, that’s all that counts ;-)
