Today I bring you another beautiful feline, felines are one of the most curious mammals for their behavior, their slender and elegant shape makes it very striking compared to other animals. Its scientific name is Leptailurus serval, commonly known by the name of serval, is one of the most elegant felines that exist, it is not as big as other felines like the Lion and the tiger but its behavior has captivated for hundreds of years scientists and nature lovers. Among its most resultant characteristics are its jumps of 3 meters high, which in relation to its size is quite high. Its closest cousins are the African golden cat and the snail.

With respect to its beautiful coat we have that they present variety in tones, that are between the golden one, as well as reddish coat, with their respective motes of dark, in some specimens some stripes can be appreciated, especially in the superior part of its body to the height of the neck.
As for its habitat, the serval cat is located in areas prior to the great Sahara desert, and some tropical wooded areas in countries such as Algeria and Morocco. It prefers grasslands, perhaps one of the reasons for its evolution with such long legs is because it is easier to hunt for its height being able to see the prey effectively.
Some scientific communities have nicknamed it as the giraffe cat because of the size of its legs and elongated neck, normally its feeding habits are linked to the night, as it is not very sun-loving and high temperatures.
In addition, as every good feline is very territorial, it is in charge of delimiting every zone where it is living, besides being solitary, being the mating season the only opportunity to share with other specimens of its species. This happens only when the female is in jealousy sharing a lot of time with the female, is the perfect opportunity for each male to demonstrate their capabilities as a lethal weapon.
If diet is based on the consumption of meat, being his specialty the hunting of small rodents like hares, he also eats some variety of amphibians, some snakes and birds if they are in a position of disadvantage. His sharp ear is his best tool for hunting, usually waiting for the right moment, analyzing each opportunity as the best time to make a deadly attack.
As for details of the reproduction we have that the serval cat, they are totally polygamous and take advantage of the 4 days of jealousy of the female that in general or has a specific period this influences by the climate. The gestation lasts 80 days and they have a maximum of 4 offspring per reproductive cycle. The offspring will need 1 year to be fed by the female before they can hunt by their own means.
