Today's Ski Expedition with our three kids!

in #nature6 years ago (edited)

I have previously written a few post about what you need when you're going cross-country skiing with kids. Among important things you need are patience, strength and a break...
Today's ski expedition was no exception, and so much worth it!
In the selfie below, the whole family is included, the oldest kid is just a bit further than the rest of us...

It was the first time on cross-country ski for the youngest. Andrea is 2,5 years old and loved it!

Henrik is five and manages well, but not as fast as his big brother.

Sverre is almost seven and has both stamina and great technique.

After a while it was not a surprise that the youngest needed some assistance.

We then had a break with chocolate, biscuits and fruits.

Then it was time to head back, my husband carrying most of the load.

All in all it was a great little adventure and happy times spent together as a family. I feel lucky to live in this winter wonderland!

Thanks for reading!

I usually go without rods, keeping the children in hands. It usually works out rather well, I can keep up the speed with the rest of the family even when the youngest doesn't want to move her legs at all ... though, probably a rope to hold on would be preferable. In the uphills and downhills I go behind and push/hold.

I can't understand today how I managed to cope two years ago ... some days I would carry skis for all of us from home, pick up the children in the kinder garden, take the bus, go skiing, the children were 2 and 5 by them. The oldest needs assistance down the hills, often there are turns also, so I would have to go down the hill with one child, run up again to pick up the other, and then down with the other. This procedure involves leaving a two year old alone in the skiing track for several minutes ... she was fine with it, but other skiers passing by and seeing a two-year old skier standing completely alone in the forest was often mildly shocked.

I usually go without my ski poles as well, but yesterday they worked well for the middle kid when he was tired so I was dragging him with them. A rope works well also, I used one for some parts during the trip.
I see where you're coming from doing whatever it takes to get to the ski tracks. It can be a hassle, and a test of stamina and patience, but almost every time I think it's wort it. As long as the kids enjoy it, that's the most important thing!
I understand you live in Oslo, hope you've had some great trips in "Marka" this winter! :)

Not nearly as much as I'd wish for, but this week it's winter vacation in the school and I have sleeping night duties, so I hope to get out skiing or on the sea every day.

Hopefully you'll get out every day! We have Winter vacation next week and will head up to the mountains. Can't wait! Meanwhile I'll ski in my neighborhood. :)

Daring sport..... U guys are good

Not that daring, but needs time and patience, and snow of course :) Thanks!

Nice post @helenmunch
So cute Andrea

This looks fun. I live in a country where there is no snow. I hope some day I can try this in a country where it snows of course :D

Hopefully you'll see snow one day, it's so much fun! :)

Wooow, so much fun! You are so cute and grate to do it all together! We are still waiting for our youngest to grow a bit so he could skii with the rest of us, but wow/ how do you manage all that backpack when you go to ski lift?

I guess that you don't use a ski lift, I just realised you live in one of most beautiful skiing countries :)))LOL

Thanks! Yes, doing it together is the charm! How old is your youngest? You are right, on this trip we were backcountry skiing so no ski lift. We do go skiing on the slopes as well, but then we don’t bring all that gear. 😊
