Trees Provide Beauty and Trees Can Cause Havoc
As I watch the news about Hurricane Michael and the devastation that it is causing, I have a lot of empathy for residents of Florida who are surrounded by trees. Those same beautiful trees that helped to define the area of Tallahassee, FL will now reek havoc on the streets, homes, highways and byways.
Some neighborhoods have underground utilities and the trees may become uprooted but they are not the main source of power outages. In neighborhoods that still have overhead power lines, strong tropical force winds as well as hurricane winds can cause power outages that last for weeks. Somebody has to cut the trees, haul them away and dispose of them all while trying to navigate streets that are blocked.
It seems like we are experiencing one hurricane after another for some reason. I just hope that fatalities and injuries are few. Material things can always be replaced, even though they may present a hardship to the people who loose them. But when you loose a loved one, their presence can never be replaced.
I am praying for the safety and comfort of those who are in the Hurricane's path.
