Catching an iridescent beetle

in #nature6 years ago (edited)

Simply stunning colours on this beetle as it reflects the sunlight off its hard exoskeleton.

Quite dull while in shade.

This hairy little critter is opening its mouth to complain about all the attention from the paparazzi.

Sort:

It looks like covered with diamonds. Very nice :)

Look at the beauty. What a capture !

this beetle has a skin layer made of a crystal structure that can reflect light. the beetle builds a chitin filament compression network. The bad chitin filaments reflect light. But optical spectroscopy finds the geometry of tissue reflecting light..

GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY

@mandela which camera you have used for clicking these pictures?

Great macro shots. I never manage to hold still and get the pictures really sharp :D

What kind of lens and camera are you using? I think with macro it is good to have a tripod, but if that isn't an option, use an external flash. It will help you get the shutter speed you need to avoid camera shake. Manual focus is also highly recommended.

Yes, I really need a travel tripod.
Too lazy to carry it around :D

The iridescence on this insect is simply beautiful. I dig the macro shots here!
