DEER * Destruction
Late Winter early Spring deer have decimated two big old bushes by my house. Never has this damage been this bad. The big rhododendron would always be covered in Spring flowers.

Oh my goodness, they really must have been hungry, what savage pruning they did! :(
Never saw them eating but saw the 3 who I think did it. They look healthy :_)

I should have put something around them when it first started but I didn't think they would be so brazen.
It's too bad about your rhododendrons, but you can be sure there were some very sick deer wandering in the woods, projectile vomiting! Rhodies are extremely toxic. The would have been pretty desperate to eat that much of it. If it was only one or two deer, they might actually have died from it. I have had goats get really sick from just eating a few leaves, let alone half a bush!
The bush has been here for over 50 years. That it was safe.
That's crazy that they would attack it like that! Did you have an unusually bad winter?
