Albuquerque BioPark: Aquarium II

in #nature5 years ago

What I failed to highlight in my previous post about our lovely visit to the Albuquerque Aquarium is the spotlight they place on current environmental dangers and what we can do to aid in conservationism.

Before the exit to the restaurant and gift shop, they have this display of "plastic soup," the horrible scourge of our oceans that devastates wildlife populations dependent on the seas.

And this magnificent sculpture made out of trash items commonly found in the oceans.

One of the amazing things that makes the Albuquerque Aquarium so special is that they propagate endangered coral reefs, to later revitalize damaged reefs and populate other aquariums across the globe. They do this by collecting "frags," or small cuttings from existing captive coral reefs, and providing them with the perfect environments to grow.

Protecting nature is our great responsibility, we must take this challenge seriously and do all we can to keep this beauty around us.

We have a reliance on plastic that seems to be ingrained in us. It's a shame that so much of the single use plastic ends up in the ocean. I think it's great that the museum shows that to bring awareness. I like the coral initiative and the fish sculpture is quite beautiful.
