Visiting friends in "Good Old Germany"
We spent a "long weekend" with friends in Germany
It's always nice to visit friends in one of our hometowns. Especially, if you don't come here very often it's always a great hello!!!
Of course, I brought my camera but guess what: every time we went out for a walk I forgot to take it with me :(
So I had to use my mobile phone to take all shots below - sorry about that.
One afternoon we visited the Rochusberg
There are several Rochusberg - I mean this one:
Source: Google maps
About 3km long and 200 - 300m wide and 250m high you can imagine perhaps how steep the sides are.
This is why there are almost no paths north-south direction. They all go from west to east. It would be impossible to walk in a normal mode these very steep paths if they were there.
Next to the parking place - which is quite high already - there is a green field where people relax, have a picknick and children can play
While walking on the paths you will find several viewing platforms like this one
Many things to learn also ... if you can read German.
I don't understand why they did not produce the information boards at least in German and English.
These boards are along your way up with some information about what you see.
On 32 information boards you will learn more about local and exotic trees, but also about the history and mythology of this forest used for generations already
There are many nesting boxes for birds - but one was conquered by hornets
On the steep mountainsides you will find trees of course but also vines on the southern side - lots of vines!
Before you reach the very top of the hill you will also walk along the "Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm"
This tower was built back in 1888 and you can climb up there and enjoy the view.
The biggest viewing platform is all the way up at the end of the Rochusberg
Some shelter if the weather turns bad.
And again this great view over the area
I hope you enjoyed this virtual walk on the Rochusberg in Germany. |
