Day 45

These last weeks will certainly be the most interesting from both a developmental and a managerial point of view. As the tadpoles near the froglet stage, the gap in their development will actually begin to matter. At NF stage 63, the tadpoles will lose their catfish-like heads and gain their permanent frog shape. Once their heads have changed, they will no longer filter feed and will instead consume small froglet pellets. At this point the froglets will have to be separated from the remaining tadpoles.

Depending on how small a group the wholesaler is willing to take at a time, that could mean being held for a few days before they can move on to their next home. Initially, I can hold the first half a dozen in the 5 and 3 gallon tanks with meticulous water changes but that once again places stress on my already limited water container supplies (I have a few more coming in on Wednesday that should hopefully solve the issue). I'm also not a fan of the idea of keeping them in such potentially cramped circumstances, even if it'll just be for a day or two.

An alternative is the possibility of purchasing a tank divider off of Amazon to avoid using the 3 and 5 gallon tanks entirely. This would provide a safe area for the froglets to live in the same tank as my frogs. The main tank is a 30 gallon with only 2 frogs for right now and a 100 gallon filter (meaning it can handle a 50 gallon frog tank). I can also hook up my secondary 40 gallon filter in an emergency, though I don't see that being necessary. My only concern with this sort of setup is the water current for the young frogs. While the divider will certainly block some of the current (and prevent them from coming into contact with the filter itself), its still a potential concern that I'll ask around about before any moves take place.

Tadpoles are fascinating... they're radical transformation to frogs is so cool

It's fascinating to watch their metamorphosis from looking like packing peanuts to catfish to full fledged frogs!

that's interesting experiment, I will continue to watch it, keep posting and good luck

Absolutely amazing! :O :O :O
