GIANT BUDDHA'S BELLY

in #nature6 years ago

This awesome ornamental bamboo got its name for obvious reasons, it is popular for its large swollen internodes, and soft weeping culms.

When it is stressed for water, is when the culms begin to belly out, and the Buddha's Belly is at its best. Drought tolerant, and frost tolerant, they can handle temperature's of -5 degrees celsius.

Beautiful! Now you've got me thinking about growing bamboo to hide my ugly wall

They are perfect to screen an ugly wall. The great thing about them is you can easily split them by removing the rhizomes and potting them in soil.

wow, these are a little different, how they bulge a little at the bottom of each section.

Yes, and the more water starved they are, the more they bulge. This one on my dads property is getting plenty of water, so the bulge isn't as pronounced as it can be.
