World Environment Day: Be a part of the solution.

Today, June 5th is a very important date for the world and for those who live in it: it's World Environment Day. Without this giant ecosystem there is no life and it's "basically" why we need to keep it alive and take care of its maintenance so that everything that is alive continues to exist.

This specific date was established in 1972 at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. The event took place in Sweden with the aim of making society aware - in general - about problems with the environment and the difficulties in educating people about the preservation of natural resources (increasingly exploited and less cultivated).

Nearly five decades have passed since then, and not only has the theme continued to rise throughout the world, but the dilemmas still persist regarding the education of the population towards preservation / maintenance of the environment.

Among the main problems, the following are some of the most noteworthy: air pollution, waste of water, incorrect waste disposal, deforestation and forest fires. It's easy to see just how complex these problems are and how long that journey will be in search of their respective solutions.

One of the great fighters in the fight for the environment is the United Nations (UN), which has a special component - which has specific authorities for the theme - to work on the theme of "environmentalism", in addition to having millions of defenders around the world struggling for the same cause (often even more efficiently and viscerally).

In one of its most recent campaigns in this never-ending struggle, the UN has launched a digital challenge that consists of the following idea: each user who accepts the challenge must appear - in video or photo - with the face covered (only nose or mouth , if you prefer... using handkerchiefs, masks or any other item that adds to the cause) and the intention is to provoke with regard to the measures that the responsible authorities need to adopt to have a cleaning in the air.

In addition, the idea (which establishes or reaffirms the commitment of people to this cause) to expand the initiative is to mark three people or companies to follow suit. On a UN recommendation, participants are encouraged to use hashtags #WorldEnvironmentDay, #BeatAirPollution and tag the UN on Twitter.

A new website has also been launched and it is possible to join a timeline of World Environment Day. The map contains information on air pollution, a test of knowledge plus a series of publications and reports related to the subject.

Practical guides with solutions for air pollution are also available (by the way, they're great, highly relevant and easily applicable... it only takes goodwill to make them happen.) and an interactive event map that groups together in one place any event that has as its main focus the search for cleaner air.

Also worth mentioning is the BreathLife campaign, which mobilizes countless individuals and cities to protect not only our health but also our planet's entire planet, focusing on the problems that the effects of air pollution can cause.

Obviously, the fight for the environment goes way beyond clean air... But that's the main focus of this year. However, it's necessary to bring the other problems back to the table so that they are widely discussed and new ideas can emerge in an attempt to solve them all. Yeah... It's a difficult task, but not impossible!
