Camping and climbing - A tower that towers above the trees!

in #naturephotography6 years ago (edited)

Hello All! We are camping near the Nicolet National Forest! Connection is limited, but we pulled some strings to share something with you today! Battery is falling fast, but I hope you enjoy this trip to the Fire Tower!

Basically they used this high tower to look for fires. There was a really cool informational board here, stating that in the 1930's most of this area was clear-cut by loggers, and the resultant slash and dead cut off was very susceptible to fires. The tower was manned daily by a looker with a 50 lb battery pack to power their radio.

@ecoinstante brought her camera. We were particularily interested in this tower because we too would like to build a birding lookout tower down on our farm. The idea would not be to look out for fires, but to be able to rise to different levels of the forest to observe birds and their habitats.

We climbed up, slowly, taking pictures all the way. The tower has small wooden platforms at every flight of stairs, and because it is only a metal skeleton, excellent views all around.

There is a big national park that extends all around! The Nicolet National forest seems very big from up in this tower, and allows itself to be photographed out to the horizon. Out in the distance, it seems that small towns or other installations are visible, and far off on the edge of the world a few rolling hills can be seen.

Ever since the selfie contest we have continued to practice our selfie art. We are very thankful to Steem for giving us an outlet to share with people from around the world, and throughout history.

Be blessed!
