Extending my daughter's pullover for the last time / 子どものセーターをのばしたり
One week delay but happy new year Needlework Monday friends! My needlework 2019 started with my daughter's pullover. Some of you may know this pullover :) I knitted it for my daughter last winter just after I found Needlework Monday on Steemit.
Once I extended its body and sleeves but it seems she needs another 2-3 cm for each. This time I was lazy to remove the lib so I simply added few rows.
It will be the last time to extend it as it will be too slim for her next winter. A bit sad I cannot see her wearing it but I'm happy to see her growth :) I wish I can find a nice family who take over this pullover.
Other than that I found a German online store that supports and sells organic linen. Great! This is what I was looking for.
I wanted to make a second attempt of knitting body towel. The first one I made with hemp yarn was good for my personal daily use but it drops some fiber. To improve this I was looking for finer but somehow rough for polishing purpose and natural material that dries quickly.
I ordered a trial kit with various linen yarns. I'm so happy to look in the box. How beautiful they are! Awwwwww ......
I started knitting with the pink one. I look forward to writing about how it turns out.
There was an interesting coincidence that I had chance to learn the difference between hemp and linen from @yo-yo in Berlin. She is an archivist of Japanese traditional weaving techniques and she herself is also a weaver. She sometimes visits Berlin and I was looking forward to meeting her.
That's my Needlework Monday :)
#NeedleWorkMonday is initiated by @crosheille and @crystalize. Now it has its own account @needleworkmonday. Thank you for hosting a wonderful & fun weekly tag!
It so fulfilling to be able to extend the life of a garment you've made yourself, @akipponn. It looks great.
Of course you could always add a knitted section to the sides like a long strip / a cable section or contrasting colour section... you know, a bit like the tails you've knitted... There are ways.
I had never contemplated knitting a towel. I look forward to seeing what you make :D
I would like to try the width extension but unfortunately it's a top down knitted sweater and no seam on the sides and sleeves ... But it's a really good idea to remember for future :)
When your daughter can't wear it anymore, perhaps another child will be able to enjoy it, @akipponn :D - it is a beautifully made sweater, but children outgrow they clothes so fast.
(And somehow I look forward to knitting a new one next season :D)
Those yarns look very alluring 😊. What is the difference between hemp and linen? Is linen from a different plant?
They are made of different plant. Both are called "麻" in Japanese so I didn't know the difference. Linen is from flax and hemp is from cannabis as long as understand right.
What a great idea. I never would have thought of adding length to a knitted garment.
I can do it as I made the sweater and know it well. This is a good thing about hand made clothes :)

This is such a smart tactic! Extended the garment to extend the wear...just brilliant! Lovely sweater btw ;D
Thanks for sharing this awesome tip!
The sweater grows with Needlework Monday :D Thank you for hosting the community this year too @crosheille!
Coming to bitcoin Stammtisch thursday? (+happy new year)
I think I will. Happy new year too!
