Needleworkmonday 3-11-2019 - re-starting blanketsteemCreated with Sketch.

I had to give up on the swirl blanket. Somewhere along the way I must have miss read the instructions. It was turning out pretty bad...

You can't tell but it was not lying flat at all, instead it was making a hat shape-

It fit ok as a hat but nothing I did seemed to help it settle. So after trying a few more rows, I frogged the swirl and cut the yarn, leaving me a cute coaster.

And now I am going to try making the square blanket that uses weird corners to go around... wish me luck!

Happy #needleworkmonday to everyone!

I am going to be in Bozeman, MT all week to help out my Mother in Law as she is still recovering from her hip replacement surgery. Her Sister in Law, our Aunt Jan, sent her a beautiful quilt to relax under while she recovers, here she is laughing at me for taking a photo of her with her feet up-

It is a pretty day out with blue skies and piles of snow everywhere! This is the view from my workspace today-

Without knowing the pattern I'd say the problem is with the short rows - instead of parallel rows of knitting there should be partial rows in between. But that's one of the reasons why I didn't start a 10-stitch-blanket ;)

It is supposed to be 1 short and then 1 joining row but it doesn't work for me. I even started adding 2 short for every one long and while that helped, the center was so screwed up already that I gave up.

Sorry it didn't work out but the coaster looks good.

My guess is as always: problems with the non-Euclidean space. Or perhaps you accidentally folded too many dimensions together... Nevertheless I am sorry you had to rip back, as the form looked (at the photo) very cool. I have no idea what you are now trying, as my knitting is not evolved enough, but I cross my fingers for you.
And all the best to your mother in law!!! Hopefully she recovers fast. The wonderful quilt will surely help (after sewing my puzzle sweater, I have no idea how someone could make a quilt... it must be so complicated)

I am now going to attempt the square blanket-

Wish me insanity!

I am pretty sure that if I had continued I would have made a blanket for a Lovecraftian creature!
I agree, Quilting looks SO complex!

Wow, those quilts look beautiful, @jamethiel and your new project, aka square blanket, looks as complicated as the round one, but the corners may be better as reference points :D

Thank you for giving me hope! :)

I tried this blanket a while back, and mine started to turn into a hat too. I just went ahead and made a hat, and someone actually bought it.
I'm watching your progress, so maybe I'll feel bold enough to try again.

Now I don't feel nearly as bad! Will see what try 2 comes up with!

wonderful gift! Let your mother-in-law recover faster !!!! Well done, you are not upset about the failure of the project. I wish you success with your project
