Kathmandu Main Road

On The Road To Kathmandu

My entry to @juliank's and @photocontests street photography contest takes us to the main road on the edge of Kathmandu. I can't remember the name of it but I walked along here when I wanted to take a look at the Royal Palace.

The traffic and consequent population was terrible as you can see, and this was more than 15 years ago. From what I've read, the number of vehicles is still increasing, as is the number of road related deaths and accidents.

Roads in the Thamel area, which is the main tourist hub, have changed for the better apparently. This is partly due to the fact that, since I was there, public vehicles are now restricted in this location.

I hope it hasn't changed too much though and that many of the roads are still quirky and narrow as this was one of my favourite places when I was there.

I loved hanging out in the cafes and people watching or browsing through all the interesting shops.

One Day I Will Return!

great street photography. good luck on returning! looks like a wonderfully busy and vibrant place

thank you.

Regarding going back, it's mainly a question of time @steven-patrick. When I travel that far I like to have at last three weeks there and John can't get that off work in one go.

Last time I went I went on my own but I don't want to go back on my own.

It was wonderfully busy and vibrant but there were plenty of places where it was quiet and peaceful too. 😊

My time overseas makes me curious about other places. I have never visited Nepal, but from what I have heard it is a great place to see (at least once).

Thanks for sharing!

Yes. it's a great place to see @sumatranate. One not to be missed. 😁

Thank you Gillian! I love seeing 'real' pictures of the cities, just like yours:)

Glad you enjoyed it @missdeli. Thank you for visiting. 😊

No problem, I did enjoy it for sure:)

what this is totally awesome and i love your signature! super cool!!! yay photography :)

Thank you @eaglespirit.

I'd quite like to try and make a similar badge to the shining quirite one and and add it to the signature but there always seems something more important to do. 😁

How are you getting on without your selfie thingy?

@gillianpearce yes your signature is very nice. i am having a slight withdrawal and missing the love! LOL
how's the photo thing??? :)

Aw. That's a shame you're missing the love. Maybe something similar will come along soon. 😊

Which photo thing are you referring to? The Qurator contest? I don't bother putting myself forward for that one anymore after my last experience. But I'm still entering contests and won one this week. 😁

@gillianpearce yes very true and i'm in the finals of a contest so we shall see how this one goes too. i'm one of the 8 finalists. fingers crossed. hope all is well.
i'm not sure what i was talking about at the time. LOL no not qurator, just you post a shit ton of photos everyday prolly. LOL

Yeah. I'm always on the look out for a good photograph contest. I won a food one the other day which was a bit of a surprise. I couldn't even remember what photo I'd entered. I had to go back and find the post when I saw the winnings in my wallet.

Good luck with the one you've got to the finals in. Well done! 😍

@gillianpearce awesome, i was waiting for that "abandonedshit" to come back but dood must be off touring the world. LOL only the lucky! thanks for the good luck and well wishes. blessings, eagle

lovely shots. love that street vibe...

Thank you @jfolkmann. Kathmandu certainly does have a vibe all of it's own.

@gillianpearce, I really like the second photo. Very well conveys the atmosphere of your story. Great work for the contest!!!

Thank you @madlenfox. I probably should have put the second photograph first! 😢

I found it later and by then I didn't have enough energy to download them again and change their sizes. (I always make the first image bigger than the ones that follow so the page loads better).

@gillianpearce, I guess I shouldn't have said that :(. I upset you. But that's just my opinion. I saw the mood in that picture. Great shot!!!

You didn't upset me at all @madlenfox. I thought the same as you once I'd found the second picture but, as I say, I'd run out of energy to change the post. 😁

Not a problem. 😍

Wow the photos are great. Travelling make us so richer! I believe you had a wonderful experience in Nepal, it's totally a different world with their style of living and culture. Do you maybe wrote a blog with some more photos of Kathmandu? :)

Thank you. I've posted quite a few blogs about Nepal I think @aramat12. I should start making a list of posts when I make them so I can add the links to the bottom.

I loved Nepal and hope to go back there one day. The biggest challenge is finding the time for a longer trip. 😊

Okay, then I will scroll down and try to find it. I'm really intreasted in travel experience, about new places and cultures. Love to read post about it. Yes I agree, it takes lot of time, organisation and so on.. I hope you find time for some more travel in the future :)

I'm trying to find somewhere to go next week but haven't had much luck with my budget and where it's not too hot. But I'll look again tomorrow. 😊

I really do have to go to this place, it's on the list...

You really do @wales. it's one of my very favourite places. Although it might have changed quite a lot since I was there. Hopefully not though. 😁

Thank you for dropping by.

Wow, that looks hot and dusty.

It was dusty @ocrdu but not too hot when I went. In fact it got quite chilly at night and I bought myself a hot water bottle. Many days I wore a fleece. 😁

Women! Always cold. 8-)

I wanna go there! wonderful, my dear Gillian! I've nominated your post for the #dailyspotlights, by @pixresteemer! Cheers, sweetie

Thank you for the nomination @nolasco. I left a comment over there as I saw that one first basically saying you really should visit Nepal. it's a wonderful place. 😊

I will go there, I will. I've even talked about going there with my kids. But first New Zealand on X-mas, hopefully! Thanks, sweetie!
