“Don’t Lose the Emerging Generation!” “不要失去新一代!”

Malaysia is unique and have caught the attention of the world by having Dr. Mahatir to be the oldest prime minister. When he was reappointed, he was 93 years old. He has become an inspiration for many people that the older generation can still be useful and contributing to others. Perhaps, this has also implied that retirement for any professionals can be optional rather than mandatory.

Although it is encouraging to see older people continue playing their roles, it should not unwittingly become an obstacle for the emerging generation to play their rightful role in the society. As the world is changing rapidly and many creative ideas do emerge in the minds of the new generation, we must harness the new blood. If we fail to do so, the older generation who are still in power would close the minds of the emerging generation. Consequently, the society suffers due to a negligence of the rising generation. Instead, the older generation should pave the way and give the new generation freedom to move forward. The older generation do not need to tell them “how”. They just need to dialogue with the new blood and affirm them as much as possible. Let the new generation decide rather than hold them back. Then, we are able to have a society flourishing with creativity and innovation.

看到老年人继续扮演他们的角色是令人鼓舞的事，但它不应该不知不觉地成为了新生代在社会中发挥影响的障碍。随着世界迅速变化，新一代人的心中正孕育着创新思维，我们必须鼓励新血。如果我们不这样做，而仍然掌权的老一辈人便会关闭了新生代的思想。如此的忽视，社会将会受到损害。相反的，老一辈应该铺平道路，让新一代自由前进。老一代不需要告诉年轻人”如何作”，他们只需要与新血对话，并尽可能地认同他们，並让新一代决定而不是阻止他们。结果，我们就能够拥有一个充满创造力和革新的社会。
