Sexual Abuse and Nobel Literature Award

in #news6 years ago

I've just read an article from time.com about the alleged sexual abuse by one of the Board Members, Jean-Claude Arnaut. Here's the link - http://time.com/5265424/nobel-literature-prize-canceled-sex-abuse-allegations/

So, basically, 18 women came out and said that they were targeted by the sexually abusive actions, taken by this guy. He's 71 years now, but he wasn't always 71.
This thing is unravelling at the background of the Cosby's trial and the Stormy Daniel's case against Donald Trump.
It looks like, for decades, some people in power have been abusing their position in order make other people have intimate relations with them.
Let's make it clear - we always talk about the men as abusers and there's been no major revelations about women doing the same thing.
Why is that?
Well, maybe, it has to deal a lot with the male instincts, hormones and generally the desire of a male to have sex with as many females as he can.
Although all of this might well be true, the main reason for the women being underrepresented in the ranks of abusers is the fact that we live in the times of the dying patriarchy.
Most of the Board of Directors of major US and EU companies have very few women.
I am from Russia. Here, Boards are usually all men with no women. In Russia, women are not seen as equals to men, but sort of a bit defective. They help and care after the decision-makers.
And that's Russia.
Surely, it's much much worse in Asia and Africa. I saw a headline "45 were killed in Nigeria when a group of hooligans came and killed these people in a village, out of the blue sky".
It's a very important to me, since I am not from US or EU, but I am from Russia. So, instead of giving in to bad feelings about my motherland, I am trying to squeeze out all the best things from position and station in life.
So, I think that the EU and US have grown too politically correct and they have been overthinking the whole "feminism" paradigm. I think that people there should generally "chill".
And the next moment I remember how my transgender friend from St. Pete told me that her skull was fractured in the central area of the city by some goons, then I remember that lots and lots of LGBT people were massacred in Chechnya in the spring of 2017 and then I remember that just a couple of weeks ago a teenage girl was found dead in my native district of Bibirevo in Moscow.
She was lying in the hall in one of the 12-story buildings (we live in project-style buildings here). She was all covered in blood. Her friends were kicking and kicking and kicking her, till she died. Or maybe she was conscious, but died later on.
This is what abuse looks like in tough countries.
In Sweden, it's 18 women coming out against a 71-year-old grandpa.
In Russia, it's a 13-year-old girl, all covered in blood and kicked to death by her friends.
So, some naïve observer might say that people in Russia need to start doing more in order to bring a stronger rule of law to the country, while people in Sweden must stop being so pissed about everything in their lives and generally chill more.
What would Africans say about this?
The point is that the Africans, who live in the countries, where people can go around and slaughter 45 people in a village just because they want to, might have had a hard time, grasping the hurt feelings of the Swiss ladies.
Bottom Line:

  1. The world is currently going through the process that will enable developed countries to accept that sexual abuse is not OK.
  2. The developing or underdeveloped countries might not understand the importance of this process because they have to deal with other, more important, stuff in their lives.
  3. The best approach to sexual abuse is to avoid doing anything uncomfortable towards other people, as seen by yourself. If you believe that you are not doing anything wrong and you believe that it's the right thing to do, you can and actually should do this.
What do I mean in Clause 3)?
Well, I guess that some men might be a bit scared and demotivated from asking out girls from their workplace. Asking out the girls that you really like is totally OK, because it's a much better option as compared to hanging out at seedy dating sites that don't magnet very good gals.
