People helping people in Townsville during the recent flood ..... the best side of human nature

in #news5 years ago (edited)

The news of the monsoon hitting the north end of Queensland flooded the TV and the papers for at least two week. The best news was the rain falling on the drought stricken farms and country towns. But the downside to this torrential rain phenomenon was the amount of rain that fell on the city of Townsville for at least ten days straight. It was a very dramatic time for the hundreds of people having to leave their flooded homes due to the Ross River overflowed big time.

Although mind boggling and dramatic to watch it was ever more so for the residents of Townsville. But what struck me was the kindness, the comradeship that naturally flowed, people were helping others who were in strife.

The Aussie patience and understanding shone through the photos, the reaching out and giving others who needed it a helping hand.

But, there is always one photo that lightens the mood and brings a smile to the face. Why not take the opportunity when it presents itself?

This natural disaster is not unique to Queensland, it is happening all over the world and I see similar helping photos and video clips during these terrible times in other countries. The caring and compassion shines through and it is a wonderful site to see and feel. To me it is a universal characteristic that is inside all of us. It the coming together of people no matter their culture, religion, beliefs or race. This is the connectedness between humans that is all important.

Love and Blessings

Cheers

Howdy angitmitchell! I didn't know you guys had monsoons down there! wow. Well at least that means that the drought is over right?

Hi janton, we only get the monsoons in the tropical north. The drought is over for many farmers but of course as it goes not everyone received the rain. Rain did not come down our way but we get it coming in from the ocean so we are lucky.

Howdy angiemitchell! Where is the Golden Coast at, the South side? I hope most of the farmers are helped by that.

Hi janton, the Gold Coast is another name for the South Coast which is situated below Brisbane. The North Coast is also called The Sunshine Coast where I live. It is very confusing for anyone who lives overseas!

Oh ok. Well the monsoon hit the North coast though right? But not where you are?

The monsoon hit the far north coast of Queensland, at least 800kms north of us. We have a big State. We are located about an hour from Brisbane. I am sorry janton that I did not make myself clear enough.

oh no that's ok, I should have looked on a map first to get some names to cities! lol.
