Passengers Reported That Someone Stole a Plane !

The man’s name is “Rich” (or “Rick”) ? and according to tower audio at some point, he told the tower he was maybe losing an engine. Periodically, his voice would cut into the dispatches. On the aviation audio he reportedly said, “This is probably jail time for life, huh? I would hope it is for a guy like me.” According to People on Twitter who were following the audio the man also attempted a “barrel roll” with the plane or at least claimed he was going to do so. So this hijacking appears to be more of a joy ride case than anything dangerous or terrorist related.

Nothing has been confirmed yet from authorities, but the aviation audio from the tower as reported on Twitter said that authorities were urging a man to try “to land that airplane safely and not hurt anybody.”

Additional audio has reported that a ground stop was underway at SeaTac, the airport that services Seattle and Tacoma in Washington state.

Some dude stole a plane from #Seatac (Allegedly), did a loop-the-loop, ALMOST crashed into #ChambersBay, then crossed in front of our party, chased by fighter jets and subsequently crashed. Weird times. pic.twitter.com/Ra4LcIhwfU

The man said to dispatchers at one point, “You think if I can land this successfully, Alaska will give me a job as a pilot?” and the Air Traffic Control tower said, “I think they will give you a job doing anything if you pull this off.” He replied, “yeahhh right.”

Because official accounts – other than through live aviation audio – were hard to come by, many passengers took to social media to report what pilots were telling them. That a man had stolen a plane. It doesn’t appear that plane had any passengers, based on the preliminary social media reports.

The Audio from the SeaTac tower reported that the aircraft was lined up on the tarmac. You can listen to some archived aviation audio on the incident here
