Dhamrai Housewife Samina hanged for killing 6 people for dowry (ulta)

Six people have been sentenced to death for killing a housewife in a fire for dowry. Judge Sharif Uddin of the Women and Children Repression Tribunal-9 of Dhaka gave this ruling on Thursday. 13-year-old woman was killed in a firefight with Kerosene in Dhamrai, Samina, 18, in Dhaka.

The six accused are Samina's husband Zafar, Zafar's sister Rokeya, Rahim, Salek, Dua Mia and Jahangir. Among them all are absconding except Jafar. The court issued an arrest warrant against them.

Samina was burnt to death on June 7, 2005. According to the documents of the case, Zafar is married to Samir's family. Dowry was about 16 thousand taka. Samina's father Jura Mia Jafar paid dowry six thousand rupees at the time of marriage. The remaining 10 thousand taka

It is said in the verdict that after marriage Zafar Samina was pressurized to bring 10 thousand taka of dowry. On the day that Samina was set on fire, she would not have been given food from three days earlier. On the day of the incident, Samina went to Jaffar's sister Rokeya's residence in Dhamrai. Zafar was staying there. At one stage, Samina was admitted to Rokeya's house. Then Zafar, Rokeya and Rahim poured kerosene on Samina and set it on fire. He was later brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died undergoing treatment. Samina's statement was taken before the death.
The victim's mother Najma Begum filed the case with the plaintiff.
