Meanwhile in the US, Federal Government Debt Payments are at All-time Highs
As the Lira implodes, US federal government payments on its $21,300,000,000,000 ($21.3 Trillion) in debt have reached all time highs of over half a trillion dollars. This is just the on-balance sheet debts as well; this doesn't include non-funded liabilities that are coming at an ever increasing rate as "Boomers" retire and start to put more strain on social programs.
These are all-time highs in debt payments, while the US artificial interest rate is still close to all-time lows...like the Lira, this won't end well either.
Think about it, if the rate of interest in the US debt market just returns to long term historical averages, which its going to, the debt payments will exceed well over $1,000,000,000,000 ($1.0 trillion dollars a year). Thats a lot of cheddar.
On top of increasing rates of interest (which have been manipulated to 500 year lows) we have a rising deficit thanks to social entitlements and a bloated military. Case in point, Trumps new pet project "Space Force". We can't even send our men/women to the international space station without help from Russia and Trump wants to patrol the heavens....brilliant.
On the longer term chart, the rate of deficits has been increasing as well thanks to a huge increase in spending not only due to higher interest payments, but also thanks to Obamacare as well as Trump's tax cuts.
So while the Lira and Latin America may be the currency stories of 2018, the United States (the whole West for that matter) time is coming.
