If I had known about bitcoin and altcoins when I was in college chances are I would be rich today. Yet I am a poor soul without much of any crypto and hype and now holding a +90% loss.

Back to the main focus of students mining in their dorms. It's funny and somewhat ironic that universities such as Syracuse is warning students "not to use school resources to own personal financial gains." Well why else do students go to school? Schools are down right expensive and it only makes sense that kids today to figure out ways to pay off school.

Personally I think it's silly to be mining while in college. On the surface it may seem to be free but college is the best time for people to learn and gain the necessary skills to build a career on. The mining is only a distraction to the school experience.

For those who are doing it and argue mining is not bothering their school experience is lying. The noise and heat produced in dorm room is not ideal. Furthermore maintaining miner and updating software periodically is no easy task. The more one relies on services to help mining such as minergate would cut in on profits making it even more difficult to earn.

As an experience miner I would recommend only mine as a hobby. It is fun to learn and play but the reward no longer outweighs the effort. To many are looking at the easy way to earn and crypto prices have cratered.

Technically, the college could take all the coins mined by the student in the dorm room, since they aren't allowed to run a business on school property.

Well what about the entrepreneural spirit? Students can't start businesses in school but schools teach it. Not trying to make a rebuttal. Just seems silly universities are trying to make double standards.

Well, a student can do that. They just can't use school resources, like electricity, to do it.
